| Will Nader running as an Independant stop the flame wars on DU? |
|
Since Nader is not running as a Green (hopefully he won't run period!) I'm wondering, will the flame wars calm down between Democrats and the Greens?

If they run someone else who does what nader did, no. If they support the democrat, or run a low key campaign designed to not interfere with the democrat beating bush, then yes. This could be good or bad. If the greens run someone strong, and nader runs as an indepenedent, it could hurt the dems even more.

| 3. I really dont understand Greens |
|
they would rather punish democrats who dont go far enough by electing republicans who hold them in disdain, then to try to work from within the party by helping to elect democrats.
Half a loaf is better than none, might not eat well, but Greens are starving with the current administration in power.

in structure. On the right, the factions are all settling for half a loaf in order to keep the neocons in power.

There's no serious attempt to understand the other. A quick and dirty definition will do.
It will have the effect of reducing use of the pejorative "Naderites." I hope for more, but don't expect it.

IF the Democrats would stop abandoning their "democratic values" and stop selling us out at every opportunity, the Greens would be irrelevant. As it is, the Greens are what the Democrats used to be.
In other words, if the democrats had been seeing to their own house, the Greens wouldn't even exist.
For the record, I have ALWAYS voted DEMOCRAT. But, first time for everything, as they say.
IF Democrats were really serious about beating W, they would start reaching out to the WORKING MAN. You harness the working man's vote, and you will kick some serious butt. Who do you think that 50-60% is that don't vote? WHY do you think those non-voters believe it don't matter who gets in? It's because as far as they are concerned, it really doesn't matter. They have been shafted/abandoned by BOTH parties.
I am for whichever candidate(s) will get the US out of the Free Trade Agreements. I am for whomever will close the tax loopholes for the corporate bastards to move jobs out of the country.
It's about JOBS, STUPID. If the working man ain't got a job to go to, or if the job he's got don't bring home the bacon, then as far as he/she is concerned it don't matter who/what he votes for.
JOBS ARE THE ISSUE that Democrats should grab and run with.
(/end of rant)

The Democrats were never the Greens. They were never like the Greens in the slightest bit. The way our government works, most of the time you will have 2 major parties, both centrist (whatever that means at the time)
An party driven by one particular ideology will never be a major party in the US. Only Broker parties can get to and sustain being major forces in US policy. What we have with the republican party is a party where one particular group is in control while the other groups consent in exchange for thier various pet issues.
As for the rest of your post, yes, jobs should be a huge issue for the democrats. The republican party is extremely out of touch with the concerns of the people in this country and we need to expose that. The democrats are the party that represents the interests and for a large extent the opinions of a majority of this country, but the Republican party has manged to create a polical playing field they can compete on through thier campaining.
The democrats never abandoned any values. Expecting more out of a political party than it can possibly deliver in our system is only going to leave you perpetually disapointed.

And many of us Lefty Dems are embracing Kucinich.
You're not alone in your beliefs. My fear is that there will soon be a huge split in the Democratic Party, with more and more people leaving as the DLC tightens its stranglehold, precisely because there aren't enough Democrats embracing the working man. See... working men don't have the money of corporations and too many of our politicians favor corporations over people.

And welcome to DU! :toast:
