Finally, the teens relent, rewarding their audience with some mouth-on-mouth action.

It's not an unusual scene, according to South Florida high school students, who say the newest trend for teen girls isn't wearing the latest designer jeans or driving a cool car, but declaring themselves to be bisexual.

My husband and I work at a Beach resort in Florida and on a typical night, about 70% of the gals on the dance floor are performing simulated sexual playful activity, by simply having fun with their friends. It's quite amusing to most of the customers and I don't believe all of them are "serious" about the gay act. They like to shock, amuse, tease and get attention anyway they can. It's a new "out in the open" culture and is quite interesting.

Just like how Britney Spears / Madonna / whoever is "liberated" to "express her sexuality", I think this is just something originally invented to sell things to men (movies, music) that has become a part of Americana. If you want to call it liberation and feel good about it, that's fine, but as a man it just seems like something to cater to my amusement.

Is all bisexuality that way? I don't believe so. But some of it is, and this party example sets off my Spidey sense in a way that actual lesbian/bi couples I know do not. Ditto for the entertainment girl-girl kisses--you never see the guy-guy kiss in quite that way in the entertainment biz, do you?

on the one hand, you can say that young women are taking control of their sexuality (I'm sure that's what THEY say), but on the other hand, I find it curious that this new control is based on men's requests, and seems to revolve around turning men on and doing what men like...

and for most of the girls, it seems that it's more about our old teen favourites- peer pressure and social acceptance, than any actual interest in exploring their own bisexuality...they're just doing it to get/go along.

How many otherwise 'straight' guys have had ocasional homosexual thoughts pop into their fantasizing at some time in their life? because like women, men have both male and female hormones and energy, and little boys like to dress up and pretend too, just like girls.

I think because our society tells us its beneath men to reflect their feminine side. Such a loss in so many ways for any culture and any man.

I would wager that there possibly might even have less fighting and less wars and aggression if ALL cultures allowed both women and men to accept both aspects of their being. And as well, if men were allowed to resolve their difficulties more like women by (kissing* or just talking things through) and making up, then who knows?

More importantly, I think it really has much less to do with sexuality, more than it does with honoring who we are as individuals and honoring others for who they are.

I think the sexuality part of it has overshadowed the need to simply connect with others in our culture and be accepted**, as well as simply the need to either be a little more feminine or a little more masculine.

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day about a straight guy she knew that liked to cross dress, and I said, well, heck we as women cross dress all the time, dont we?

What is the big deal if men want to get out the dresses and make-up and play once in a while? We love to be cowgirls and athletes.

No difference except that our culture says there is. Yes, it would take a shift in thinking for some people, and that in the long run I would think would be very freeing for them.

I also know of men that have grown up with sisters who partly because they were surrounded by sisters who would even MAKE them play dress up (which might have been kinda mean, but they were the only sibling**)and they would laugh about it but I got it that I think they had a blast. I came from a slew of brothers and I know that made me want to be a boy so much at times, mainly so I could hang out with the boys more and they would accept me - same thing I think. We all want to have fun and connect.

Gotta say that men have truly missed out on the art of makeovers and dress-up. Im amazed in some ways how much we put so much pressure on boys not to be soft and sweet some times.

I believe they would feel so much more okay to be themselves, as we all would. Theres nothing more attractive to me than I guy who has a sweet and soft side. (Ask just about any gal.)

Of course many if not most love the manliness in a man, just like most men like feminity in a woman, but dont we all like a little of both? I think men like to see a strong, (and soft)grown up woman. Like everything, it goes both ways.

Girls are allowed much more leeway there, I think partly because we as girls are not taken as seriously in this society and in other societies, (that can and will change and grow when women begin to honor each other more*), and therefore can frolick and explore more easily, and yes, its even a turn on to men.

We should all be allowed these same freedoms - to play and explore, and even as adults, as long as it never harms anyone, and how could something like playing dress-up be harmful? Its healthy because it allows us to explore parts of our creativity, and for children, to identity both masculine and feminine aspects of who they really are. Kind of helps create a whole individual instead of a divided and conflicted one.
