| FLASH: Reagan NSA Admits Real Reason For Iraq War (Hardball) |
|
MATTHEWS: Let me ask you. The American people a year from now are trying to figure out exactly why we went to war with Saddam Hussein. We can’t find the weapons of mass destruction, we can’t find any nuclear evidence. We know we were warned there wasn’t any. We know-we find out there’s no connection with 9/11. Why did we go to war, Mr. Tanter? TANTER: Humongous change in the strategic landscape. American forces on the border of Syria, on the border of Iran. Rogue regime change... MATTHEWS: So geopolitical. TANTER: Rogue regime change... MATTHEWS: So it really was goal of the neo-cons to change the map of the Middle East. Is that what you’re saying? TANTER: Rogue regime change may lead to democratic peace. MATTHEWS: So we went to war to change the maps. We’re Lawrence of Arabia here.
Raymond Tanter was a Reagan National Security Advisor. I hope these are the new talking points.

| 7. This is a talking point? |

How about this for a talking point: Any war for regime change in the Middle East that has US involvement GUARANTEES that a theological radical will come into power.

| 8. Raymond Tanter, Rick Sanchez, etc. THE SCOOP... |
|
Just a few words about Raymond Tanter and Rick Sanchez (i.e. the blowhard ex-anchor who brought the "map" issue to MSNBC)
I was at Michigan during the 90's studying the ME etc. when Tanter was there (not sure if he still is or is emeritus...) I have no "dish" on him--just the views of others: Suffice it to say, even though his "specialty" was the Middle East--the other specialists at Michigan had little if anything to do w/ him. He used to teach on web-based course on the A-I conflict and kept trying to shill his book on "Rogue Regimes"--you'd think he'd be tired of the term by now. He also had an unsuccessful political campaign. Anyone I spoke to who knew him viewed him as a jerk with a bit of a checkered reputation. I won't spread gossip--just the fact that he was not well-liked by female members of the student body I talked to. It could simply be slanderous rumor--but lord knows he was viewed as a tool for other reasons.
As for Sanchez--I do know that when he left the Faux affiliate down here in SoFla--he was not given a warm send-off--simply put, many were happy to see him go. Channel 7 down here is the quintessential "If it bleeds it leads" Faux channel down here--Sanchez was not well loved for his actions during Andrew, Elian, as well as other scandals. Alas, I fear he may be returning. He's also the one, I suspect, who brought along some of the other more "interesting" commentators to MSNBC since 9/11.
Some ask why they don't hear Academics on the news etc. (read Kramer's diatribe against ME studies--it's a sick hack job)--- the reason is folks like Tanter...and Kramer...and Pipes (a la Campus-watch)
