just gave my highschool AP physics presentation...im pumped...

anyway, its a AP class, so its supposedly college quality class in highschool, and i have one of the most notoriously hard teachers (one of the highest qualifing rates out there, but HARD) and anyway, i gave my final presentation today, i was thinkin it was average until he gave me the biggest compliment ive ever recieved.

he told me the project was doctorate quality work! and im just a FREAKIN HIGHSCHOOLER!

FUK YEA!

oh yea, and im graduating on sunday, thats not too shabby either.

5. Guitar Pickups

how they work, how to reduce hum, background noise, ect.

before i started this project i hated E&M and such... now i love it...

putting it all together was a bit of a pain though i had to deal with craploads more topics than the others did, the others usuially focused on one concept. i had a bit of a list:

AC voltage/current
Sound
Wave motion
Oscillations
Electricity & Magnetisim
there was more too, i just forget it at the moment.

and i was working alone too, most other people went in groups.

9. no, i didnt have the time to build one...

the winding has to be just right otherwise you get microphonic feedback and such, so i didnt have the time but i probably could have, and the winding is a very specific thing.

winding a pickup by hand and being successful at it would have taken me double the time, unfortunatley. but its something im interested in and probably will do someday anyway lol.

I talked about exactly this topic about 2 months ago in my into University Physics course and I even brought in my electric guitar to do some demos. I also teach a course in musical acoustics that covers this topic. :-)

Yes go into physics! I am always glad to see more prospective physics students.

I graduated with my Masters in Physics in 97. I got to the point of my qualifliers and was totally burnt out, I got slammed by the qualifliers and decided not to pursue my doctorate.

The greatest part about being a physics student was that once you enter graduate school... you get paid to go to school. (This includes paid tuition and in most cases fees are paid one just pays for books and room & board)

I actually still work in the physics field. I work at Jefferson Labs in Newport News, VA. I am an accelerator operator. The operators run the accelerator and deliver the polarized CW electron beam to the experimental halls.

I hope you continue to pursue physics.

Great job on your project.

My physics teacher was really cool, he taught a physics course for music students. It was one of my favorite classes in HS. We did classical physics and discussed principles associated with music. This was in the ancient days when what was hot -- Walter (now Wendy) Carlos came out with "Switched on Bach. He even was able (now this was a loooooong time ago) to bring in Mr. Moog (the inventor of the synthesizer) to our high school for a demonstration. "

Years after I graduated every time we'd meet we'd talk about acoustics.

18. Physics is great to study

I just got my doctorate in physics last Sunday. I did experimental biophysics and built instruments. It's a great field to study, even at the undergraduate level. It's very challenging, and only gets more so as you go on to higher levels, and I've never once choosing it as a field of study.

Too bad I missed out on a fantastic job last week :-( I was amongst the final 3 candidates and got passed over :grr:

But, enough about me. Have fun at school. Study physics. At parties tell girls you study something else so they don't walk away from you. (seriously).

I was just up in Alaska on the train to Denali from Fairbanks and we were sitting across from a couple from Austin. She asked me what I did and when I said I was a physics professor, it sort of halted the conversation in its tracks (no pun intended). Fortunately I have lots of stock jokes to get the conversation back on the rails. Congrats on your Ph.D. and I hope you find a good gig.

22. Oh, AP Physics, you make me laugh

My final was "Boolean Logic"...it was sooooo bad. My class was a joke (even though it was AP C). But I enjoyed it thoroughly. And my teacher is a hottie.
