Though Muddy is so close, you can hear the Mississippi River moan...
I love too many to list.

On my wall facing me is an autographed pic of Gatemouth he signed for me in January 1997 at a show in Seattle. He played for over 3 hours, not counting the intermission.
He took donations for the autographs to pay for his daughter's college fund.
He is a mean SOB on fiddle and guitar. The San Antonio Ballbuster! No wonder you like him. :-)

To date, that is best "luck" show I have ever seen. Walk to House of Blues, ask who's playing. Get told Clarence is playing, and it's his 72nd birthday. Pay 12 dollars. Stand 3 feet from the man. Soak in the genius.
No autograph, though. :evilfrown:

www.kellyjoephelps.com has some samples and album info. His newer stuff is less slide oriented, more fingerstyle, but I like that too. Even the tunes that you wouldn't classify as "blues" clearly show the influence.
He's wonderful, IMO...

| 39. He's a jaw-droppingly technically talented and soulful Oregonian |
|
All acoustic, fingerstyle that I've never heard anyone else play like. It's like Travis-picking combined with sometimes blistering, sometimes understated slide work, played lap-style.
That, and he has an amazing voice and range of expression. He has one album with a band, and three as a solo performer.
I'd recommend starting with 'Shine-Eyed Mr. Zen'.
There is simply no one else like him. To give you an idea of his talent, he is one of god's, I mean, Bill Frissel's favorite guitarists.
I cannot praise the man's music highly enough. If you like soul, he's your guy. If you like technique, he's your guy.

His version of 'Goodnight Irene' is simultaneously so true and yet so uniquely his that it defies description.

who knew Robert Johnson personally, and has the chops to prove it. I've seen him 3 times, and love the delta blues sound. It won't get more authentic than Honeyboy. "The World Don't Owe Me Anything" - highly recommended by Bushfire http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1556522754/qid=1061585903/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/104-4468984-1799912?v=glance&s=books
