32. Don't like Husky Stadium.....

Too much video, they have a REALLY ANNOYING siren they play when they score (my first game there was UW-USC and it was a tossup whether USC's band and their two songs or Washington's siren was worse), the concessions are bad, and when I went there as a fan of a visiting team, they put us these horrible rickety bleachers in the open endzone and when a little boy dropped his shoe down, they wouldn't let him look for it.) Parking is ridiculous. I followed a sign to park for TWO MILES and when I got there, they said it was only for the Tyee (Big Man) Club - would have been nice if they had pointed that out when they were directing everyone there. Also, they have this ugly orange, spongy track around the edge.

On Edit: and they are constantly playing that obnoxious Tequila song! Guess that's because their fight song ("the boys are here with bells! their fighting blood excels! it's tougher to push them over the line than pass the Dardenelles!") is so bad.

We live in Seattle and I have the sheet music to this song. I don't know anyone who knows all the words, knows that it mentions the "boys with bells", or anyone who can sing the "heaven help the sons of Washington" section that is essentially tuneless. They have people try to sing it on KJR every year, and it's bizarre.

and there was a campaign there in WWI. You "pass" them because it's water (rather than "crossing" them.) Strangely, this was my grandmother's fight song at her high school in Detroit. When I first moved to Seattle and saw the sheet music to Washington's strange fight song, I called my mother and said, "get a load of THIS." She listened to me try to sing it (it IS hard to get the tune!) and she said, "so THAT'S where that came from! That was your grandmother's high school song and none of us could ever figure out where they got it!"

13. The Kibbie Dome, University of Idaho

The cool thing about the Kibbie Dome is that it's not just the University's football field. It's an indoor stadium, so naturally it has artificial turf. Someone at the engineering school (the stadium was designed by engineering students) decided that there should be no reason why the turf had to be glued down, with the result that it was the first stadium in America with removable turf. This innovation allows them to play all of their varsity sports in this building.

It also has the largest plywood roof in the world.

The Superdome in New Orleans had removable turf as early as 1976, maybe 1975. I know for certain because I attended concerts there that long ago, and the turf and padding was rolled up and the concrete floor was bare.

21. We drove from St. Louis, MO to New Orleans to see the Sugar Bowl

and did not even have tickets. We watched the game from a bar. Before the game the fight song played over and over again. Da Da Da DA! I love that song.

I lost my voice for a week after that game. That was the most fun I ever had for any sporting event ever. I danced with young coeds and sang at the top of my voice with total strangers.

USC had a great team, but the system was set long before the season. You can't take the good (the check) and reject the bad (the 2nd place finish). That's just pure hypocrisy. :)

Actually, I hope we both get to the Orange Bowl and settle this on the field. USC did get jobbed in 2003. I would have rather seen USC v. LSU over LSU v. OK, but we got what we got. It is fun arguing about this though.

I'm no USC fan, but I would have loved to see LSU and USC play in the Sugar Bowl. As I said before, USC got jobbed. THe PAC-10 should add a championship game. The extra BCS points from that would likely have moved USC into the top two, although as perverse as it is, LSU actually lost BCS points this year by beating Georgia in the SEC championship game.

With the teams we both have returning there is a chance we will get to see that game this year.

Parents moved back there about 10 years ago, so I go visit them.

Big change for the wife to go to Auburn; she'd lived in Wisconsin her whole life until then. She suffered severe culture shock. Was a math tutor for some of the players on the Auburn football team (including Bo Jackson), so became a big fan.

I agree with you; there is NO doubt that that the Sugar Bowl should have been USC-LSU.

And rightfully so. Simply more talent, more ways to score.

It's very telling that no one from USC denies LSU its share of the title, but Bayou Bengal whiners are perpetually defensive and want to pretend the entire pie is theirs. As if they would be surrendering everything to USC if the situation had been reversed. HA!!!. Yeah, and Scalia, Thomas and the other 3 SCOTUS thieves would have ruled the same way if Gore was AHEAD by 537.

That BCS check argument is the most idiotic yet. USC won the writers/broadcasters poll, which is completely separate from the BCS nonsense. You can win that poll and not even appear in a BCS bowl. In fact, it's hardly impossible that a dominant team on probation and bowl ineligible could win that poll.

As mentioned by others, LSU would not even have won the coaches poll if they were allowed to vote their conscience. And LSU backed into the championship game when 15 point underdog Kansas St upset Oklahoma. Otherwise the Tigers were out. You would think LSU fans would be classy and sharp enough to understand those inconvenient truths. Apparently not.

Oddsmakers don't always know what they are doing. You're on crack if you think that USC fans don't deny LSU their half. You just did it implicitly.

The whole point of the BCS was to determine one national championship. Everyone knew the system going in. If you want to deny the result, then return the money. Otherwise, we crowned a national champ on January 4 in New Orleans. You can have the AP poll, but that does not make USC National Champions. It just makes them popular with the writers, who are typically clueless about college football.

LSU didn't back into a damn thing. All they did was keep winning, including an ass kicking in the SEC championship game against a tough Georgia team. Any objective look at the LSU's and USC's records in 2003 shows that LSU played a tougher and more impressive schedule. USC has nothing but itself and its weak PAC-10 record to balme for being left in the cold.

As for our class and sharpness, perjhaps if you were paying attention (maybe a little sharper), you would have picked up on the fact that both eyeandmonkey and I are just smack talking and joking about all of this. Methinks someone is a little too serious.

I'm from Louisiana originally, but have only been there as a fan of an opposing team. Seeing a game there is surreal. The fans are crazy. One time my friend was walking through the parking lot with the rest of the cheerleading squad from our school, when this little old mawmaw stands up and gives the one-fingered salue and yells "We're gonna kick y'alls ass!" And she was right. :D

27. Surreal insanity that no one has mentioned Notre Dame Stadium

I've been to all the biggies and nothing matches the aura of Notre Dame, especially sitting in the front row with my feet on the grass and peering across at Touchdown Jesus, as I managed as a senior at USC.

Notre Dame IS college football, regardless of how many titles any pretender racks up.

The most scenic I've been to are Husky Stadium and Army. The most intimidating is the Orange Bowl, home of my 'Canes. That will be proven once again on Sept. 6, when FSU shows up for its first whipping as a fellow member of the ACC.

One of my roommates was in the Michigan marching band for three years. If you've never seen them, they pour out of the tunnel at pre-game with their hands up in the air, yelling as they quick high step into the block M. I asked her once if that was faked; if they were told to do that. She told me the coolest thing -- that the team is behind them in the tunnel firing the band up, telling them they're the greatest band ever, etc., etc. and just get their adrenaline going. Then she said "You can't imagine what it's like to run out of that tunnel, hear the roar (of 100,000+) and know it's for you."

you should try to make it. We are pretty hospitable fans outside of the stadium. After the heart-breaker against FSU last year, we actually went out with some guys from FSU we met at the game. We may talk some shit in the stadium but its all fun outside.
