| Any Bad Religion fans here? |
|
I just got their new album, The Empire Strikes First, yesterday.
Does anyone else have it, or listened to it? I would like to hear some folks opinions on it, if possible.
I think its an amazing album, really no bad tracks or filler. It amazes me that a band thats been around that long, and been through so much can still put out such fantastic music.

| 1. They are the AC/DC of punk rock |
|
Same album. Same riffs. Same themes. Again and again.
Not necessarily a bad thing, but also not something I need to own multiple albums by.

| 3. Yeah, Ac/Dc had such wonderful lyrics, and harmonies... /sarcasm off |
|
But its ok, you are basically right. But I look at it in a different light. With BR you know exactly what you are going to get, intelligent punk rock with some classic hardcore punk and harmonies thrown in.
Lyrically, not too many can even compare. At least in the punk genre.
I think its a case of, 'why change a winning formula?'

| 4. You know what I mean.... |

Replace Greg Graffin's words with Bon Scott or Brian Johnson's sexual innuendo. Replace their cut time kick beat with AC/DC's rock solid 4/4 time and Brett Guerwit's power chords with....well, Angus Young's power chords.
Basic point is that both bands have released umpteen albums with nary a trace of growth, progression, or change. Again, not a bad thing. Just an observation.

| 2. My uncle, nearly 60, digs it, and he wrote to me the other day: |

"have you heard Bad Religion's new CD, "The Empire Strikes First"? It is very aptly named for these scary days."

I love those guys. Actually some of their songs are quite melodic. Some of the themes can be repetive, but they are usually asking questions that others do not. Although NOFX can be more fun.
