| Is it normal to feel light-headed after exercise? |
|
I just did 22 minutes on the elliptical trainer as part of my new exercise program, combining forward and backward action. I feel kinda good, yet kinda light-headed. It's k00ky.
Thx!

| 1. A little? Yes. A lot? No. |

If you're training, keep to your metabolic target range.
(220 - your age in years) x 0.75
If you're 30, that would be (220 - 30) x 0.75, or 140 to 145 beats per minute.
If you're way out of shape, cut back a little; say, to 130 or 135 bpm.
If you have ANY questions about your health, you really should ask your physician, although I understand it's not always possible.

The heart monitor was consistent at 138BPM.
I did get tired while exercising but I did not stop, I merely switched direction. Going backwards really did a kicker on the legs.
I did ask my doc a couple months ago about how I should start a program, but he didn't give me anything approaching these specifics or what to look out for.
Thanks for the info!! :-)

You might want to slow down some if you are feeling light-headed.
I walk the treadmill everyday for 30 minutes and I don't feel light-headed.
Also, make sure you are drinking plenty of water throughout the day! You might feel light-headed because you are dehydrated.
Hope that helps! Good luck.

I don't feel light headed after working out only when I haven't had enough water in my system. Welcome to DU :hi: from Mesa

I'm glad to be here.
I think those of us who live in the desert have a better understanding of just how important water is during workouts.
I always forget to drink it in cold climates and suffer as a result.

You will soon settle into "an aerobic zone" where you strike a balance between speed and endurance. You're doing great ... I shoot for at least 20-30 minutes every other day on my E-LifeFitness trainer. IMHO Excellent effort ... monitor your HR and keep it goin' :-)

| 7. Could be dehydration...you may want to drink 50/50 Gatorade-H20 |
|
mix before and after...
A year ago I collapsed from deydration. It takes a while to get your electrolytes back to normal, esp. if you are on certain meds.
The prescription was to NOT overdrink water, because you flush out your electrolytes.....6-8 glasses of 50/50 Gatorade-H20 was the doctor's orders....
