try Original Joe's @ Taylor/ Eddy. The neighbor hood has deteriorated a bit, but still good- I avoid chains. Is it Nick's at the beach? out near Cliff house?- Seal Rock. The Alcatraz tour is great.

6. Pier 39

i live about 100 miles north of SanFrancisco. When you get to pier 39 go on up to the second level, there is a seafood place(surprise) that we always go too, you can't miss it's right at the top of the stairs. Best views in town. You should if you have time take the ferry over to Sausilito, ferry also at pier 39. The ride is very short and well worth the trip. Whatever you do, avoid Bubbagumps, it's awful and overpriced and don't forget to go check out the sealions at the end of the pier.

Badlands was the first bar I set foot in in the Castro back in 1983!

I recommend 20 Tank Brewry, on 11th near Folsom, if it's still there (been ten years since I lived in SF). Great microbrew, great pizza, relaxed atmosphere; straight, but cool.

Cliff House is kinda cool, as is the beach and cliffs there.

And North Beach--the straight version of Castro Street!

Oooo, also Il Fornaio, great Italian restaurant on the Embarcadero.

9. Ride the trolley up to the Castro district

On Saturday mornings there is a really good Farmer's Market at the Ferry Building. And, find some time to wander around Chinatown. You might also be able to attend a baseball game at SBC Park. I think the Dodgers are in town this weekend.

41. i have been there once before

long time ago- like 20 years. i did a lot of the tourist things then. the wharf, the seals, chinatown, ferry. planning to go back to the wharf and stuff my face with the fresh crab again. the haight would be fun. but i can do without a lot of the other stuff.
definitely would like to do brunch on monday with some DUers. hubby will be busy.

that's only my favorite city in the world. You can't see all of SF in three days, so don't even try. One tip, though - if you decide to eat at the Cliff House, don't do it after dark. The view is nonexistent after dark, and the view's the whole point - the food's kind of mediocre and very overpriced. Have breakfast there instead.

Fisherman's Wharf is fun for awhile, but gets overwhelming. I'd take a trip out on the Bay instead. See the Maritime Museum - I never miss it. Golden Gate Park is beautiful. Gotta hang out in the Castro for awhile.

Almost all the food in SF is great. For some reason, the city is crawling with fantastic restaurants in every cuisine. I had an oyster poorboy on sourdough at some little hole-in-the-wall that was to die for.

Lots of great shops in the Haight Ashbury district as well. My favorite place to eat? Alioto's in Fisherman's Wharf. Excellent shrimp pasta and an incredible view of the Bay.

On edit, just to clarify, City Lights and Vesuvio's are not in the Haight Ashbury district, it's in North Beach.
