How come we don't have ketchup potato chips in the US?

One of the best part of going north of the border is returning with ketchup flavored potato chips. I was just up this weekend, and the cashier couldn't believe we don't have them here ("they're like, one of the original flavors!").

They are SERIOUSLY good. Really good. They taste like mcdonalds french fries dipped in ketchup. Oh wow. yum.

Oh yeah, and Coke in Canada seems to be made with real sugar instead of corn sugar.

The lays ones are what I buy in canada, but I haven't found them here. In fact, the town 1 mile south of the border doesn't even have them.

What horror no ketchup chips in America? That is the strangest thngest I ever heard. But on a serious note avoid anything made of corn syrup (corn sugar my arse). Lots of scientific data showing that the body does not process it the same way as real sugar and that the growth of obesity and diabetes parallels the growing use of corn syrup and other corn derivatives in food.

Does the US have salt & vinegar potato chips?

Salt and vinegar are the only things that should go on chips (as distinct from "potato chips": French fries). That's what real Canadians put on 'em. The practise of Mcdonalds and its ilk asking customers (the teenagers who talk like they've stepped off the set of 90210 or whatever's assaulting us over the airwaves from the south these days) whether they want ketchup with their fries is one of the most blatant examples of USAmerican cultural imperialism we have.

Of course, cheese and gravy go on chips/fries too, but vinegar is still de rigueur.

Lays Salt & Vinegar come in a light blue bag. My wife easily succumbs to "ate the whole damn bag" syndrome with that flavor.

I've never seen ketchup chips in the U.S. I also appreciate the "all dressed up" variety, seemingly available only in Canada, that seem to incorporate every known spice.

"All dressed" is actually French. ;)

I'd never heard the expression in English, but when I lived in a little village in Quebec for a couple of months a few years ago, we used to order pizza (in French) "all dress".

The French is now "tout garni", which is the politically correct way to say "all dressed". But ...

Potato chips come in flavo(u)rs such as salt and vinegar, ketchup, and "all dressed" (a collection of just about all possible seasonings -- the person who suggested this one liked it to a "suicide slush" in the States).

I was just curious, because my local 7-11 doesn't carry "all dressed" potato chips. I'm sure they're a Quebec delicacy.
