Regardless, what is the best debut album by an artist or band?

He was only 23 when he made it, but damn it is so lyrically and musically mature. I think it is better than some of his later stuff.

My "Meet the Beatles CD" doesn't have I Wanna Hold Your Hand, I Saw Her Standing There, This Boy, or All My Loving.

I thought IWHYH and AML were released as singles, and that ISHST was on Please Please me and This Boy was on A Hard Days Night?

And also wasn't Meet The Beatles their second album, their first being Please Please Me?

12. "Meet The Beatles" Was Their First Capital Album Released in the US

Vee-Jay Records brought out "Introducing the Beatles" around the same time.

There was an instrumental version of "This Boy" on the "Hard Day's Night" soundtrack - it was called "Ringo's Theme".

40. The Beatles' first album was actually "Please Please Me"

Released in the U.K. in '63. Their second album was "With The Beatles," or "Meet The Beatles," as it was called for its subsequent U.S. release.

In fact, "Introducing the Beatles" was released in the US during the Summer of 1963, but sold poorly at first. A few Beatle songs were featured on American Bandstand's "Rate a Record" and they got dismal ratings. When Dick Clark held up a picture of the Fab Four, everybody laughed.

Six months later, we couldn't get enough of the Beatles. And the stockpiles of "Introducing the Beatles" started moving off store shelves.

Dire Strait's first release was around the same time, the two were an embarrassment of riches for guitar players.

Easily the best rock album debut.

Also Radiohead "The Bends". Yeah, I know that Pablo Honey was their first release but it wasn't really an album so much as just a bunch of songs they had recorded and slapped together for their record company.

Also, Ministry "With Sympathy" stands out for some reason. LOL!!!

32. I love Boston, that was a killer album, and sales do matter...

..after all, we are talking about the music BUSINESS and the BUSINESS is to sell albums.

Yeah, I know there are circumstances that skew sales like record promotion and radio airplay.

Yeah, I know there are those who don't think sales mean anything.

No, I don't think the huge selling BackStreet Boys album is a classic. But some people do.

We all have our opinions on what we feel is the best debut albums for one reason or another. My list doesn't contain all big sellers, but some of my are monster sellers.

22. The Whole World is Watching....

Hmmmm...I guess in the world of popular music it would have to be "Chicago Transit Authority". The first time I heard the album, I had just bought it and was over my best friend's house in his basement, we had copped a few beers from his dad's bar and were feeling a but spiffled when that last track just nailed us to to our chairs...

24. Guns'N'Roses Appetite for Destruction

At the time, that album got me excited about music again.

A great album, which pretty much sparked the popular revival of hard rock/metal. (I know the music wasn't metal, but the hard rock at the time was often erroneously called metal, sometimes 'pop metal' for the radio-friendly poppier stuff--the stuff I usually didn't like.)

25. Freak Out! by the Mothers of Invention

It was a watershed. (Actually it was a massive pie in the face for everybody who thought rock'n'roll was disposable teenage music!) Edgard Varese sensibilities with electric guitars, doo-wop vocals, and explicit sympathy for alternative lifestyles.
