the Stevie Nicks version. The original band was very very good, even later on with Christine McVie nee Perfect. When Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham joined the band, they ruined it imo.

32. I agree - the original Fleetwood Mac was completely different

I saw the original Fleetwood Mac on television in Europe when they were a blues-rock power trio, playing out of stacks of 100 Watt Orange amps. Peter Green had previously replaced Eric Clapton in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and I loved his guitar work, especially his loud and gritty slide guitar. Mick Fleetwood and John McVie were also good. Fleetwood Mac in Europe was extremely popular during that time, in the tradition of Cream, the Yardbirds, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience, but almost unknown in the U.S. To me, the problems started when they added another guitar and then it really degenerated when they went to pop rock with Christine McVie. Then, it went from pop rock to soft rock and easy listening with Nicks and Buckingham which became totally unpalatable to my taste. I can't think of a group that made such a great transition in style.

I totally fail to get the obsessive fawning that band recieves -- their stuff does almost nothing for me. The more recent material with Doug Gillard on guitar does more for me, but it's really only Gillard's guitar playing, nothing else.

I liked Phish a lot, and still do - didn't follow them, but saw them a few times. Sometimes bands' new music doesn't hold up to the stuff you started liking them for. Does that make any sense? I just kind of lost interest, and my favoritism towards Widespread increased.

I didn't stop liking them because they became more popular - it just kind of coincided with them getting bigger & bigger in the late 90's.

thats what i assumed you meant, just making sure; ive had the same experience with Chicago, Metallica and, though it pains me to say it, Pink Floyd. i truthfully havent even listened to phish's recent stuff; im a relatively new fan, and ive been working my way forward through their discography

Yes, I know that they were cool--the lyrics, the attitude. I've enjoyed other bandmember projects. And Exene married Viggo Mortensen (after she & John Doe broke up)--how cool is that?

But the harmonies of Exene & John Doe's duets reminded me of "It's a Beautiful Day"--one of the dippiest of hippy bands. I did that hippy stuff--Grateful Dead & all--but "White Bird" has always made me barf!

I've never been able to get into a Perfect Circle. The strange thing is that I like Tool well enough. It's weird, I know. I also tried to get into the Grateful Dead years ago to no avail. I felt like I was missing something good, so I kept trying. Finally I gave up and am now at peace.
