How do you collect unemployment?

Can you collect if you quit? How can you predict what your monthly payments will be? How long do you get UI?

I don't plan to be unemployed anytime soon, but I'm curious.

1. Depends on the state

Usually if you quit you aren't eligible. If you are fired it often depends on the circumstances.

When I apply for UI, do they verify that I didn't flip off the boss & try to get fired?

4. If you can demonstrate it was unwarranted

If you are a whistleblower, or if you are fired for complaining about sexual harrassment...that type of thing.

2. It varies per state but normally you can't collect

if you quit unless you can prove you were being treated badly. You have to have it documented I believe and have witnessess.
