| Do you agree with my liberal friend? |
|
Edited on Sat Aug-07-04 03:35 PM by Moonbeam_Starlight
He told me this yesterday: "If you are a conservative, you are either stupid, greedy, or both."
Ok, now I KNOW that is a sweeping generalization and I did call him on it, since I know people who consider themselves conservative who seem neither stupid nor greedy to me.
Then he said, "Ok, if you are a bush supporter, you are either stupid, greedy, or both."
Now THAT, I could agree with more.
Then he said, "If you are conservative, you are MORE likely to be stupid, greedy, or both than a liberal."
Do you agree with that?
(Yes, I know, SWEEPING generalizations here, but I was intrigued as I started to think of everyone I know who IS voting for bush and um.....most of them honestly AREN'T very bright AND are quite greedy!)

I'm no great lover of traditional conservatives, but in order to emphasize that we should all want to get rid of Whistle Ass, I usually insult "Bushies," rather than "Republicans" or "conservatives." I've actually made some inroad with some conservatives by pointing out that he isn't a conservative.
I supposed I do belive the "more likely" statement because Bushies are more likely to be included in conservatives than liberals. But I don't see the benefit of making statements like that. What does it serve?
To quote Howard Dean, "He (Bush) isn't a Republican. He isn't a conservative. He's a dangerous radical."
On edit: Yes, you'd either have to be stupid or greedy to be a Bushie.

| 2. ChimpCo Inc. and their allies are not conservatives... |
|
They are extremist religious fanatics (like the Taliban). Big difference.
Conservatives would support Fiscal responsibility, smaller government, and upholding the U. S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Our current leaders are interested in none of those things.

Peel away the Bush base and get them to ideally stay home (helps rest of Democratic ticket) or vote Libertarian or even Democratic.

What is "stupid"? What is "greedy"? Hell, I might be a complete idiot, but I still consider myself very liberal. I also covet many things, but I still consider myself liberal. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

| 4. The essence of conservatism |
|
Is pridefullness and selfishness. All basic conservative attitudes can be traced back to those basic attributes.

| 13. It even applies to social issues |
|
I like to say arrogance and pride instead of greed because you can understand their stance on social morality issues that way too.
Liberals have values too, but a conservative is not only pridefull enough to believe that they know how everyone else should live their personal life, they are also arrogant enough to believe they have the right to force their values on others. So conservatives aren't more moral. They're just more arrogant and pridefull about pushing their morals on others. When I describe the conservative position on moral issues that way people usually back down and shut up.

I don't think conserving the environment is pridefulness or selfishness.
I don't think conserving credit (reducing or eliminating deficits and debt) is pridefulness or selfishness.

| 7. I think it more refers to rabid supporters of Bushco |
|
I have several conservative friends who will be voting for Bush but they admit that he is not the best thing for the party. I'm still working on them. I am thinking of one teacher friend of mine who absolutely one of the nicest people I know but conservative. I would help her out in a heartbeat even though she supports the repukes. We have our political conversations but they are very civil. In fact, she can't stand O'Really or OxyRush, but she can't stand Al Franken or Michael Moore either.
But again to answer the question, the stupid, greedy people are rabid Bushco supporters. The others are just gullible and a little ignorant.

You're blinded. The bias catches you, and you fall back to the morality excuse. I have friends and friends' parents like this, who will fall back to "Well, if Clinton wasn't having oral sex..". I'm not at all saying morality is bad by any means, but when it comes to politics, usually nothing's that moral.

lower taxes: code for "we dont care if the poor starve, get no health care, or receive poor education so long as my friends can hang on to their millions"
small government: Code for "we dont care if the poor starve, get no health care, or receive poor education"
These sound like core republican values to me which are both stupid and greedy.

What brainpower conservatives have is usually squandered trying to justify hate, selfishness, or both.
What legislation they introduce has an eye toward solidifying their power, and little else.

Most people voting for Bush are just flat-out ignorant on the issues(this doesn't mean they are stupid) or are scared due to the manipulation of the terror alerts. I dislike generalizations- even if some traits are true. It gives justification to basically rationalize "debates" between the issues as "he/she is a (feel in generalizing adj. of that political side) , so don't listen to him or her". You see this all the time with Kerry- talking heads call Kerry a "MA liberal" and dismiss him right then and there. No one benefits.
