| I just had the strangest afternoon/night of my life....Spooky |
|
Edited on Sun Aug-08-04 11:27 PM by Rowdyboy
My partner and I always eat out on Sunday afternoon-guaranteed. Today, we chose a local Greek restaurant (great gyros) and seafood bisque. As we were walking up the outside stairs, a car pulled up and the guy was clearly staring at us. Later, on the balcony, a good-looking 30ish guy walks over to out table and introduces himself. He thinks he knows me. He calls me by the name of my closest friend from high school, 30+ years ago. I haven't heard from him in 20 years. He thinks I'm my ex-best friend!
According to him, I look extraordinarily like my best friend of 30 years ago. I know its the same person (same name, same wife, same occupation). Evidently, my closest buddy in high school has grown to look just like me.
He was alone and we traded stories for hours. Then we went to our house to relax and talk more. He only left a few minutes ago. I know the guy is serious-my friend hasn't changed much at all in 30 years except he has more money now. I'm calling him tomorrow to catch up for the last 25 years. I'm really pumped.
I think, sometimes, a greater power is at work directing certain people our way. There must be some reason behind the people who have inhabited my life. They all fit too well to be total accidents.
Spooky, maybe, but really nice. I miss my friend Roger...He was my first real love...

| 1. do you think it was serendipity? |
|
Were you thinking about this person much lately?
I've experienced spooky coincidences when in a period of emotional tumult...I've had strangers act towards me in a weird yet somehow knowing way they knew what I was dealing with internally...It's been a major cause of introspection...
However, it doesn't sound quite that way with your experience...Maybe mere coincidence, and if so I hope you can contact your long lost friend and rekindle an old friendship...

| 3. I'm too stunned to understand completely but, yes, I think serendipity |
|
is the only explanation. This guy, out of nowhere, walked up to strangers and said he thought he knew us. He was wrong, but not very. It was totally bizarre.
I feel like I MUST contact my old friend tomorrow. How could I not? But how could we look like each other? To be honest, Roger was WAY cuter than me.
I'm totally confused, but very pleased.

who became a doctor. No San Francisco connection that I know of (and I would know).

What do you think when straight people use the term 'partner' instead of boy/girl friend or husband / wife?

| 5. Partner is the term Michael and I use for each other... |
|
Husband/wife is stupid-we're equals; lover sounds tacky-like all we are is sex maniacs. Room-mates is too casual, best friends is correct but misleading. Partners is accurate, honest, and really non-threatening to most people. And it accurately describes our relationship-we truly are partners, in the best sense of the word.

| 7. Even in hetero relationships, people should be partners... |
|
I'd rather be refered to as a partner than a wife, girlfriend, roommate, etc.
Partners in life. That's the way it should be. It denotes complete equality in the relationship, and no type-casted roles. I like it best.

| 12. I'm very curious about that too.... |
|
Straight people seem to respond more positively to that word than to some others.

That's what we use to refer to each other. It's been over 23 years, and I still don't feel right saying "husband". And it sounds equally weird to be "wife".

Rowdy. That's the way my husband and I think of ourselves--partners. Partners in life.
Sometimes we also say we are each other's cheering section, but that's a bit long!

| 16. Are you familiar with the phrase "I've got your back"? |
|
Well, that's basically what its about. I've got his back, he has mine. We protect each other when we can, and support each other when we can't. He's my best friend, with bedroom privileges. And he knows how to make me crazy. It doesn't get much better than that.

I bet I do.
Sounds like a great meal and even better conversation. I'll have to check out that restaurant next time I'm up your way. :-)

I had suvlaki, Michael had a basic gyro, and we all three had the seafood bisque. Lots of beer....Beautiful balcony, cool temps, hot young man-it was pure heaven!
BTW, Jill, the guy we were discussing is a local doctor in your area. He's part owner of MEA and really a fascinating guy.

I thought you ate at Bill's Tavern. Silly me.
But, I tell ya what...next time I come up to hear my buddy play in his band (they do Martin, Sinatra, etc. covers) I will talk everyone into eating there.
Do you and Michael ever go over to Natchez?

| 11. We drove by Bill's Tavern on McWillie today but it's closed on Sunday! |
|
That is so wild. Far from being silly, you were right on the money. Had Bill's been open today, we would have gone there.
Sure, we get to Natchez-occasionally, but with Michael's elderly mother, and a dog and a yard and a big house, travel is a luxury, not a common experience. Our little trip to New Orleans was ruined at the last minute and I haven't had the heart to book anything else yet.

| 20. Did you have a feeling to go to that restaurant? |
|
It's called fate and something drew you to him.
Some reason you guys were suppose to meet up again in life and now you have.
Enjoy your rekindled friendship something is going to become of this friendship or you wouldn't have met back up with him.
Fate, serendipity, or whatever it is it's a bit spooky but it's a good spooky not a bad one.

I agree with you. We are "supposed" to meet again and now is the time. And, yes, it is "good" spooky. I'm really excited-I'm calling him later this morning.
