| I just found tapes I recorded with my very first "band" |
|
I say band because it was really just two 10 and 11 year old kids rocking out on acoustic guitars. We called ourselves "Hamster", think Simon and Garfunkel meets Sesame Street..lol. But seriously some of it is dreadfully bad and some of it was half decent but we spent two summers in our pre-adolescence recording this stuff and had a hell of a time doing it. We even had forced concerts for our parents to attend and concept albums. Thats right we "released" a double album called "Steams of Consciousness" All we did was pick a topic, chord pattern and hit record...all the lyrics were streams of consciousness. I'd say we were ahead of our times with that one!
And just think if I wasn't putting off packing, I wouldn't have taken this stroll down memory lane...something has to be said for that type of procrastination!

| 1. I just found the stuff I sang backing vocals on back in high school |
|
and college; I also played keyboards on a few songs. We had a '60s-ish sound and were very influenced by the Byrds, Love, etc.
I'm intrigued by Hamster. Sounds like you could be the new Shaggs! (Google them if you're unfamiliar):D

| 3. lol...I googled the Shaggs... |

and you might be on to something, we were pretty awful but managed to have some unexpectedly poetic lyrics (at least for people our age). I guess you could file this under "from the mouths of babes" but at least three of our songs dealt with different family members making a complete asses of themselves while drunk!
Hell we even made a few kickass covers as well...My favorites were "All along the Watchtower" and "Helter Skelter" (for those we busted out our newly acquired electric guitars)

one of these days I'm going to get these on a CD so they don't rot away. but here's a sampling of one of our songs...
from the refrain of "Drunk" it's about how my dad acts around the ladies when intoxicated...
"No, you can't be talking to me even though I am a hunk you may say that I am lying... but I'm not drunk"
see not too bad for a couple of 10 year olds

I wish I could still write songs. It seems as if I peeked too early or I'm just to lazy because I haven't written anything original since the 8th grade for a talent show. oh well
