"Silly String" Banned In Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "Silly string," a colorful aerosol foam that children spray on each other, is not so silly after all, at least not in Los Angeles.

The city council voted on Tuesday to ban the use of the string-like plastic derivative in Hollywood on Halloween because of environmental and security concerns.

Liberal use of the stringy foam by Halloween revelers had sparked fights in years past on Hollywood Boulevard, officials said.

"People get a little crazed at the end of the evening and they shoot the spray into each other's faces," said Jane Galbraith, spokeswoman for ban sponsor Councilman Tom LaBonge.

Merchants complained it was hard to clean up, while environmentalists charged that it harmed marine life when it drained from the streets into the ocean because it was not biodegradable.

1. Years ago I saw some footage from a "real video" type show. Its a birthday

party and everyone's gathered round the cake (5 and 6 year olds). The kid leans over to blow out the candles and his friend decides to shoot him in the face with silly string - he blowtorched the kids face - his whole head was in flames - it will never be in my home. :scared:

After reading that, I have no intention to now, definitely.

I always think of Darlie Routier (notorious Texan murderess who killed her 2 sons) having a "birthday party" for one at his gravesite several days after the murder.

Her son had been brutally murdered, and here was this crazy woman spraying silly string all over his grave and acting like she didn't have a care in the world.

3. I think I saw the same show... it was an absolute torch!

Imagine the fun on halloween with every child owning their own personal blowtorch. I agree with the ban, frankly.
