| Attention: Problem Solvers. I need some help! |
|
My 25th wedding anniversary is tomorrow. I bought my husband a nice watch. (The one he's wearing comes from a Time magazine subscription; it has a huge American flag on the face)! Anyway, I neglected to buy wrapping paper. I can't get out of the house today to go buy some, and we'll be exchanging gifts in the morning. Does anybody know how to MAKE wrapping paper? How about a good substitute? (I don't have any gift bags, either). I know that someone out there is a genius. Please help!

They're colorful, at least.

| 4. Relax and get creative. |
|
I never, ever buy wrapping paper. Instead, I use up something around the house: brown paper bag, tin foil, comics, etc. I can always find a piece of ribbon, yarn, string. If not, go outside (if you live in such a setting)and find a flower, leaves, something natural to stick on the wrapped gift. Or, cut something colorful, artsy out of a magazine.
Recently, I wrapped my grandaughter`s gift up in a beautiful piece of birch bark I found on the ground. She liked it as much as the gift itself.
I`ll be willing to bet that your husband will comment on your creative wrapping job. And, just for laughs, recently my grown daughter gave me a gift in a Ritz cracker box tied with an old piece of purple ribbon. I absolutely loved it and saved the box so I can use it for her next gift. There`s a lot of satisfaction in this back-to-basics stuff.

works for wrapping paper. Not necessary, but ribbons really make it look good.
Happy anniversay!

| 7. 25th Anniv is "silver" |

My suggestion is to wrap box in tinfoil (looks silvery).
Do you have a garden? Any flowers? If there is a little floral something out there, take a sprig along with a bit of greenery and attach to box in lieu of ribbon. (to attach, you could cut a litle strip of paper - wrap it tidily and snugly around flower stems . Tape or glue paper flower holder to package.
NB: Of course you would do that close to gift-time to avoid wiltage.
Do you have any ribbon? Any colour is nice with silver.
What were your wedding colours? Your boquet colours, his tie etc? Find pix in a magazine with those colours and cut out heart shapes. Glue those on box. You're looking for "pieces" of colour big enough to cut a heart out of( not specific objects. ) Those colours might be a background, the side of a car in car ad, the eyeshadow coulours in a makeup ad, a picture of a sofa etc etc.
If it isn't a 'solid" coulour don't worry; the texture will be pretty.
You could also cut out 25 from soome nice-coloured bit of magazine.
Do you have your weding invite? Do you have a scanner or copier?
Make a copy of the invite. Stick it on a blank notecard, greeting card etc. Write yer own message in blank area.
Hope this helps!

| 8. Do you have a tree in your yard? |
|
If so, great. You'll need to chop it down, and I'll go ahead and assume you have a pulp processor in your basement. Press the pulp, with like a rolling pin or something, and put it in the freezer for a couple of hours. Maybe use some red food coloring.

Paper is white unless you put food coloring in it.

Paper is brown until the manufacturer bleaches it. By the way, that is why papermakers are the worst polluters; not chopping down the trees, but dumping the used chemicals anywhere they can.

It`s a dangerous color ever since the McCarthy hearings. How about this?.....Get a can of yellow spray paint, spray a paper bag, draw a bunch of green horizontal lines and presto!Gift wrap disguised like a legal pad.

Spray paint it white, then spray paint it brown so that it looks like a paper bag?

Spray paint a brown paper bag brown, saving the can of white spray paint you mentioned for a quick, once-over on the watch. The husband won`t be able to tell it`s a watch, so....no need for gift wrap. Like with Bush......Mission Accomplished!

I hadn't thought of spray painting the watch itself, but that's the perfect way to disguise it!

| 9. I use brown paper bags and strips of walpaper border. |
|
It looks really elegant, and uses up the leftover wallpaper.
I've used waxed paper with permanent marker designs, computer paper with stamps, fabric (use straight pins instead of tape)....
Look around for anything flat that folds. Get creative.

search some web sites for "art" work, grab an image and print out a couple of copies
with some creative scotch tape you can fashion a quickie sheet of wrapping paper
