Am i the only one that listens to music from the 20s, 30s, and 40s?

I love the music from silent films - people think of silent films as truly silent, but they all had great musical scores.:hi:

Great music that never gets recognized. I'm sad because TCM played silent films every Sunday night, but they haven't been showing any in the last few weeks.

I went without TCM for over a year, then finally got it back, and now, no more Silent Sundays! :grr:

The best way to see them is in a theater with either an old pipe organ or an orchestra.

I saw a great Indian silent film called Shiraz (absolutely beautiful and spectacular, btw) at the San Francisco Silent Film Festival two years ago. They had an ensemble playing sitars, tablas and harmonium, and it was amazing!

Most of it is folk and old-time music. I love Charlie Poole, the Delmore Brothers, and all the old-time fiddlers. I have about 2gb of old public domain music, most of it from the 20's.

I had *just* found a university radio station that plays real jazz, and then my car goes and gets a short in the electrical system. So if I want the car to run, no radio. :(

It's just hard to find many recordings.

Call me strange, but i like the old honking, scratchy sounds of the original recordings. I don't care much for modern recordings of those compositions.

having gone through my rock & roll and folk music phases, these days I listen mostly to jazz, and mostly early jazz . . . funny you should mention Django Reinhardt . . . just picked up a CD of him with Stephane Grappelli and the Quintet of the Hot Club . . . also love Ellington, Ella, and particularly Louis Armstrong . . . upon whose back all popular music rests . . . :)
