I'm just one of those un-American commies who sees no use for football.
Wait, no. There's one good thing about it. It keeps jocks off the streets for a little while. :)

Why does every damn channel need to show football? Haven't these people ever heard of counterprogramming? If I didn't have a dish, I would lose my mind in the fall.
I also hate that they always go over the time it's supposed to go off. This is one of the reasons one of my favorite shows got cancelled. Stupid Fox kept pre-empting Futurama or coming in on the middle of it 'cause of stupid football. And then it just disappeared.
Stupid football.

Every day this time of year is a good football day, if you're a football fan. The only good football day for me would be the day every football team got abducted by aliens.
That would be a really good day. :)

When Utah and BYU play each other, and the earth opens up and swallows the stadium whole, teams, fans, coaches, the works.

But I self-deleted since this seems to be the day for it. It does indeed take all kinds.
Let's just say I'm having a supremely shitty day irl, and some of it is due to football.

it is so boring. and i am glad you started this thread.
i did not like sports, then i had a bf who was a total baseball fan and i liked it for a while. then my dad worked for an NBA owner, and i got him to get seats as part of his pay thing. so i liked basketball for a while. but i will never love anyone enough to take football on. i have no idea what the rules are and what stuff is in the game.
and i intend to keep it that way. :)

I'll watch it at a stadium, but I'd rather see baseball, and then, I'd rather be participating in a sport instead of watching-fencing, aikido, katana, etc. Watching just doesn't do anything for me for sports. Not like movies.

It's not that I hate sports--I actually like sports, though I'm not the obsessive type that knows every stat, etc. I was on teams in school and did extracurricular stuff. I would rather be playing than watching, though. I think soccer is boring as hell to watch on tv (except when watching on Telemundo...the announcers are hilarious) but I had fun playing it in school. The only time I really watch sports on TV is figure skating competitions, the occasional baseball game and the Olympics. You could call me a casual sports fan.
But football is just weird. I've gone to games (every year I get dragged to the Urban League Classic b/c I have family acquaintances involved with the organization and the tickets are free). I've watched on tv. Aside from high school gym class I never really played it, but no matter how you slice it, it's just boring to me.
You seem to like the stuff I like though...I did fencing (sabre), and enjoy studying any kind of martial or sword arts. I don't really consider them sports though, they're on a totally different level IMO.

|
They're sports, but not "sports"-at least, not as defined as the average sports fan thinks. I've always wondered why, but I think it likely has to do with the lack of team elements. The average person doesn't have the context to understand a fencing bout, so it would be boring for them, and there's no interaction with other players (except the opponent) to mitigate any of thet.

My boyfriend is a sports fan, but he hates American football. He thinks it's for wusses 'cause they use padding. :P
The only thing he really goes nuts over is Aussie rules football, which I also think is boring but I don't mind it so much because the guys are cute and they have nice legs. ;)
