Jasper, the monkey, whose very presence has caused his “mother” all kinds of fines and legal headaches in Green Bay, is living in exile in Manitowoc.
Meanwhile, Tracie Cornelius is traveling twice a day to the monkey-friendly zone to visit Jasper.
“If she doesn’t (adjust him to new surroundings) gradually, he could starve himself to death, and neither of us want to see that,” said Lois Franco of Manitowoc, a monkey parent of more than 30 years.
Franco is offering asylum to Jasper until Cornelius and her fiance can find an affordable place to live in an area that isn’t anti-simian.
Green Bay slapped Cornelius with another fine last week, this one $660, for harboring an exotic animal inside city limits.
She got two similar fines from the city last year after the Capuchin escaped from an east-side bar and made the news. So last November, she and her fiance moved to Bellevue, where no such exotic animal ordinances exist.

Along with monkey biscuits and other people food, he’s fond of cheese — especially fried curds from Kroll’s. “He’s definitely a Wisconsin monkey,” Cornelius said.
