God, this Gary Jules version of "Mad World" is so incredibly beautiful.

Radio is shitty in Ohio, and sadly, I only first heard this song while out west a week ago. I finally found out who sang it, and it's just the most gorgeous thing I've heard in so, so long. When I heard it for the first time last week, it was all I could do to keep the mist out of my eyes. It's been so long since a song affected me in such a way.

I always loved the Tears for Fears original from back in '82, but then, they're a guilty pleasure of mine. But this newer version just seems so appropriate to today's times, it's so stark and haunting and I'm in love with Jules' voice and Michael Andrews gentle piano.

I hear the song was huge in the UK late last year, and got a lot of US airplay (somewhere, but not in my part of the country) this spring, so I apologize for being such a latecomer in that area. I really need to start watching the UK charts again, so I can find the good stuff.

Anyhow, I give this song and the full album, "Trading Snakeoil for Wolftickets," my highest recommendation to fellow DUers who are longing to be haunted by music again.

7. fantastic film

it came out in 2001, did poorly in theaters, but sold over a million copies on DVD. last month they came out with a director's cut in theaters, with an additional 20 minutes of footage. i highly, HIGHLY recommend.

I couldn't believe that it didn't do well in the theaters with all the big name actors in it...it's definetly worth getting on DVD or at least worth a rent...
