"The Education of Little Tree" was NOT autobiographical, and in fact was written by a (possibly reformed?) white supremacist.

I was pretty shocked to read this, via snopes link.

2. I never read the book--allthough it was hugely popular, and then this

story about the white supremacist having written it came out a few years back. I'll have to read it before I make a judgement. From what I heard, seems incredible that such a bigot could write what was a very open-minded book. It's like the controversy over the latest German movie about Hitler. It makes him out to be a monster, but also as a guy who was quite polite and caring towards the female members of his staff. Even a monster like Hitler isn't totally painted in black and white, and I think we need to understand that so that there never is another one (think 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue).

does not necessarily mean or contradict talent.

In this case, though, the writer is supposedly 180 degrees opposite of what he claimed to be in the book.
