Also, a DUer gave me a boxed set of the Rings Trilogy, plus the Hobbit and the Silmarillion last Christmas. I had never read them (Tolkein/D&D-heads were the only clique lower on the social totem-pole than punks in my high school, and I couldn't bear to sink any further so I vigorously resisted), and found that I really enjoyed them. Except the Silmarillion - that was a snore.

A fellow DU-er helped me get a job in a roundabout way.

His company was hiring, so I updated my resume' to reflect the skills I had that would work well with that company. Having done so, I decided to submit the resume to a couple other places that would be looking for some similar skills sets. I got a call from one of those a couple days later, went through the whole interviewing process, got an offer, and took that job since it was one I had really wanted all along.
