seriously, I've never really listened to his stuff much, but an assignment in my jazz history class is to go to his website and write about one of his songs.

I listened to that because it was familiar, but I realized then I'd never heard that piece of music before.
Next was "Alabama." Next I heard "Africa."
It changed my life.
Congratulations on discovering Coltrane. Check out his work with Miles; check out "Kind of Blue."

if you really want to impress your instructor, you should check out some of Horace Silver's work. The Stylings of Silver and Songs for My Father are both excellent LP's. His Doin' the Thing, which is a live recording at The Village Gate, just positively swings!
