| Anyone ever think parents are unreasonable? |
|
Well, yesterday we got back from Texas and I had 6 hours of homework to do there. I did all of it while they were out and now, when we got back, I was tired and I was doing my last bit of homework in between breaks. My mom came in and asked if I had all my homework done and I said "yeah, yeah sure." because I wasn't paying attention. When I went to type up my essay for english class, my keyboard the connection between the keyboard and the computer got messed up and I couldn't use the keyboard. My parents were sleeping already and so I couldn't ask them. I left a note on the door about the keyboard and that I needed a note so that the teacher wouldn't be mad (she like essays typed) and I went to sleep. This morning, they woke me up and I went and showered. Once I got out, they started screaming at me for not doing my homework (even though I wrote my essay on paper) and so I tell them how I did it. So, they say I lied to them. And I tell them that if I wasn't aware of it, then I didn't lie. So, now they refuse to sign a note saying the keyboard was broken and now I might fail my essay. Does anyone think that seems a little unfair?

| 1. Yes. Unfair. The fact of the matter, the essay was technically done. |
|
Forgot about it. Take your handwritten essay to your teacher and submit it with the proviso that you made a copy and will hand in a better version (typed) tomorrow. No one to my knowledge failed because of form; you may lose a plus or get a minus, but that's it. It's more important that you hand it in on time and tell the story to your teacher.
Good luck.

I can see both points. You don't feel supported, your parents don't feel like you wre straight with them.
My guess is they want you to feel more responsible for actions. They'd actually like you to pay attention. If you had taken the time to be respectful to your mother by listening to what she asked she would've been more aware of what you needed to finish. As it was, she thought you were done.
That's good training for later life - even when it doesn't strike you as important you have to listen to what your boss says, your spouse, whatever.
So, why are you posting on DU when you could be typing your report?

You are a poor student and don't have a home computer? What if you don't have a typewriter and can't afford one? Would she require printed essays than? Some kids are in dire straights in this country. Lucky to have food and clothes.
Some teachers can be unreasonable too. Just a side thought.

is irrelavant in this case - the question was centented on what happens when your home computer goes down and your parents won't help you out.

That is their job. You're lucky yours care enough, though I know you don't feel so lucky now. Approach them in the p.m. when the dust has settled and they might be more reasonable.
