Hi, I am new to posting at DU and am curious how many of us here are gay. I am currently with a wonderful man and we have been together for 8 years now. I really wish we could get married and hopefuly after we shut down the right wing we will be able to do so.

I have been with my hubby for 11 years. There are alot of us here & Du welcomes us with open arms. Marriage is coming slowly but it will happen & I believe it will happen in our lifetime.

during my lifetime perhaps in my next life but, hopefully I will be a female then anyway.

Not that I have anything against lesbians of course but, it would nice to be so called normal for once. But, on the plus side society is a bit nicer to lesbians then it is to us gay guys.

We have many gay members here, Jason, and for the most part the rest of us are open minded so I think you'll feel right at home here on DU. If somebody here gives you a hard time just tell Skittles and she'll kick their ass. ;)

but I would hope that my gay and lesbian brothers and sisters would be granted civil rights. The exact same rights straight people have. Then the marriage thing would be automatic.

Not gay, but have many gay friends and it angers me that they have been denied basic rights for so long.

If they will deny you your rights, then they will eventually get around to taking away mine.

I'm straight. You are gay. Be the differences between us are probably small, when compared to the similarities. We are in this mess together, brother. Time to take our country back.

Welcome to DU! Lots of family here! Lots of allies!! It may be "just a message board," but when you are having a hard time, you will find some people here are GREAT at cheering you up! My partner also posts here! :) Even our pets (and we have LOTS of them) are liberals! :)

13. I am lucky...

...mine builds computers. We have six in the house. I really think my computer could probably clean my house if I learned to make it do that! My partner built my computer and it KICKS ASS! We are both tech-savvy, he more than I. My area is languages.

And, nothing wrong with a little "baw-chika-baw-wow" (you know, that awful porn music sound). I love all the great dialog! If I am ever in a really piss-poor mood, a few minutes of porn has me laughing so hard, I can carry on! :)

I'm a little older than you and I have been fighting since the age of 15 for gay rights. In spite of serious decimation to a large part of our population, we have nevertheless made significant progress in the past few decades, but we must work harder, push and insist on full equality so that, soon I hope, your wish to marry your mate of 8 years, and my wish to marry my mate of 20 years, will come true. But remember, nothing will be granted us, so don't expect sitting around and waiting for it to happen. You have to make it happen.

Although there's loads of information on DU that will help inform, a lot of it languishes down in the Civil Rights/Equality/Privacy forum. I urge you to check it out regularly with your own contributions.
