| Did music influence your political/social views? If so, who? |
|
As a child of old time a.m. radio I feel CCR, Three Dog Night, Chicago, Temptations, CSN, Marvi Gaye and Stevie Wonder had a huge impact on my current political and social views.

i used to listen to the black stations in alabama growing up in the '60s and '70s. that, along with the ususal subversive R&R mix pretty much shaped my political audiology...

I think it was WLAC, or something similar? We could catch it late at night....had Redd Foxx, Moms Mably, and all the great soul music? Sponsored by Randy's Record Mart!

| 13. I hadn't thought about this in years |
|
I have an older brother, (12 years older), who was really into folk music, and back when I was 9 - 10 years old his record collection was my first real introduction to music. He had a lot of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, and ... Phil Ochs. Phil Ochs was my favorite. I was attracted to the wordplay, even though I didn't really understand much of what it was about. My favorite was "Knock On the Door".
Thinking about it now, I realize that that music had a huge impact on my political development...

All of them influenced me when I was younger. But I'd say that my political/social views were mostly shaped by my parents. The music was just an added bonus. :D

protested and the Civil Rights struggle was being waged, and the music I listened to was protest music: Joan Baez, Peter, Paul and Mary, Dylan. Looks like a perfect time for a revival of protest music. That music kept whole movements going strong...it put people in the streets. It helped bring down the evil Nixon Admin and helped end the Vietnam war. There doesn't seem to be same spirit in the young people today, but maybe it will come.
