| Anybody tried Net Zero Hi Speed? |
|
I've been seeing ads for net zero hi speed for $14.95 a month (their dialup is $9.95). I know it can't be much, but I'm having a budget crisis right now, and any little bit helps. I currently have earthlink dialup @ $21.95 a month and it's been satisfactory. I've never known anybody that had net zero and changing an isp can be a hassle, so I thought I would ask around first. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks

| 1. It just uses some tricks |

Really not all that more impressive than regular dial-up... just a tad more compression and caching features. That "5 times faster" claim is for plain text only. Normal browsing will be almost the same.

| 2. Isn't the Net Zero service also dial-up? |
|
And if it is, I don't see how it can be all that much faster than any other dial-up ISP.
I was a Juno customer while I was doing dial-up and it was fine, although I think they're not $9.95 a month anymore... more like $15.
I think if you're happy with what you have there's little to gain by switching ISP's until you go with a different connection type.

| 3. I have the Netzero $9.95 plan |
|
and it's actually pretty OK. I've only had one or two dropped connections in the 5 months or so we used it (compared to our former, local ISP, which would drop constantly).
We'll probably switch to broadband soon, though.
Oh, a caveat -- I think NetZero's high-speed is still dial-up, it's just faster. I don't think it's broadband.

dial up.
For my $9.95 a month, NetZero is a dream, even on the slower speed. I love it. (No, I don't work for them, dammit.)
I've been dropped twice in the past two months. If anything, I get loopy on the windows I have open, or the site I'm visiting crashes. As for the ISP itself, you can't do any better anywhere for the price.

| 4. I had earthlink............. |

as well and jumped to tnni.net (a local company I think). Dial up is dial up, you can't beat the old mule and try to get it to go faster. After 5 years of broadband in the NE, coming to south cental Florida (where it's not available) was a bummer at first, but I'm used to it now. I pay $13.95 per month for the same internet that earthlink charges $21.95 for. Don't be afraid to make the change, save your money.

| 5. I have Net zero highspeed |
|
Netzero high speed is still a dial up connection that uses compression for faster loading. Dude change to netzero high speed it’s cheaper. My one complaint is that the connection does drop due to inactivity even though I'm downloading via (Kazaa) after a couple of hours. HiSpeed works automatically! You don't have to do anything to receive faster web page downloads. When you visit a new web page with NetZero HiSpeed, the speedometers in the System Tray and on the Toolbar will show activity to indicate that NetZero HiSpeed is accelerating the web pages that you are viewing. Customizing NetZero HiSpeed
NetZero HiSpeed can be set to go faster or slower depending on your preference. To adjust the speed of your web page downloads right-click on the speedometer icon in the system tray or click on the HiSpeed logo on the toolbar. Choose Settings from the Menu.
Adjusting your speed will have an impact on how images on web pages appear. For most speed settings, you will not notice a difference. However, at the fastest settings, images will be displayed at a lower quality.
The way images appear can be customized as described below.
Controlling Image Quality There are three ways to control image quality using NetZero HiSpeed:
By RIGHT-CLICKING on any image Displaying any image or all the images on a single page at full quality is easy! Simply: Move your cursor over any image on the page. Click the right button of your mouse. Click Show Original Image on the menu to display the image you clicked on at its full quality. Click Show All Original Images on the menu to display all of the images on the page you are viewing at full quality.
