If we don't get justice in Redwood City, we won't have just anywhere!
Civil disobediance anyone?

yet very pleased.
I thought they did not have enough evidence to sustain the burden of proof.

| 6. I certainly have an issue with the death penalty |
|
I am opposed to it in general, but he is now being exposed to this risk on only circumstantial evidence. that certainly doesn't meet the death threshold. but I bet he gets it anyway.

| 23. when have jurors ever NOT based their decisions on emotion? |
|
What's the point of a closing argument, if not an appeal to the emotional base of a juror?

The complete lack of evidence, yet one gets convicted. Are jurors now basing decisions on emotions and not facts. This case wasn't even a circumstantial case, it was a conjecturial case. A prosecutor can emotionally argue an innocent person into prison.
Yes, I think he did it. But that gives me little comfort for the innocent.

| 20. You're right--and my take is that many people are sheep... |
|
...they went into the case with such a strong pro-prosecution and strong pro-authority bias that the DA didn't need to prove guilt--it was more up to the defense to prove innocence. Look at Iraq--Dumbo and his cohorts lied, yet people still believe them, in many cases simply because they believe people in authority don't lie.

| 8. Why do people care about this case? |
|
Is it any more than both people were reasonably good looking? If Scott had been bald and pockmarked, and Laci had weighed 300lbs, would the media have given a shit?

| 10. NO I finally heard a "media critic" say this a few months ago |
|
Probably the only story I have completely watched about this.
This guy said the obvious -~"It was LAci's smile that sold this story"
She did have a beautiful smile. It feeds into the whole "pretty white girl is missing" pack journalism.

| 15. I feel about this the same way I felt about OJ |
|
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 04:32 PM by Pithlet
In fact, I was more certain of OJ's guilt. But, I don't think the prosecution met their burden of proof in Peterson's case, and I think they bungled up the prosecution in an attempt to bolster their case in the OJ trial, and broke too many rules for a guilty verdict to have been handed down. I think in both cases a not guilty verdict is appropriate, but I think that guilt is highly probable in both cases. It's not always a popular opinion to have.

And why has this case gotten such overwhelming coverage outside of California? Is it only important if pretty people murder and are murdered?
