I need a hug
I had a bad day. A really, piss-poor, sad excuse for a day. I'd have been better off just sleeping thru the whole thing.

Get your intestines ripped out and then being strangled by them off/on, never killing you but getting pretty damn close each time...

OK, that sounds graphic... but it was that painful. Many, many bad things hitting me at once. :(

But reading about Skittles and her brother, I feel selfish because nothing I feel can even compare to what must be going through her head right now :(

13. In an attempt to make you feel better
may I suggest you turn your thoughts to the 18 and 19 year old Soldiers and Marines in Fallujah who are in harms way, are hungry, in need of a bath and who may be dead by this time tomorrow. Feel better about your plight in life?

20. Your post is the equivalent of saying

There is no justification for that. None.

That's WHAT.

I understand what you're saying, but you don't think anyone is comparing their situations to the people in Fallujah, do you? You can be miserable without thinking you're the most miserable person on the planet.
All St Jarv was doing was asking for a hug.
Now get out there and give it to him!
A hug, that is, not a guilty conscience.

28. I think they call it OLD SCHOOL
I can Hug the poster or I can open his eyes to the possibilities before him. If today was a bad day then plan on kicking tomorrow's ass. I think it was Henry Ford who said:

"Whether you think you can or can't, you are right." And let me add another - American ends with I CAN.

Meanwhile, as we hug, the bullets are flying in Fallujah. Unless the poster can muster up a greater case, I'll save a hug for Private Doe or Corporal Smith. Hopefully, They'll live long enough to get it.

29. Private Doe and Corporal Smith aren't here, BOSSHOG
St Jarvitude is and has asked for a little sympathy.

If that's too much for you, and you find yourself unable to do anything but heap scorn on them for asking, then please kindly ignore the thread. You're really not helping anyone, least of all the soldiers in Fallujah. :eyes:

all over the planet.

I have a lot of compassion for our soldiers in Fallujah, and the people they are killing. It's a terrible, terrible situation for everyone.

I also have compassion for you. It seems like you might need a hug too.

38. Great and next time I feel down
I'm just going to get a big cat o' nine tails and beat myself with it and remind myself it could always be worse. That'll make me feel better.

Not every person and every instance calls for "tough love."

Damn you must be a ton of fun at family gatherings, funerals, hospital visits, etc.

Just SUCK IT UP! You coulda lost BOTH legs!

41. Why would a cat o nine tails beating
be used to make you feel better? I don't understand. You face adversity and kick its ass. I am one of a very few liberals in my family, so yes, I am a barrel of monkeys at such events. I do not believe funerals should be sad but a happy remembrance of the dearly departed. I'm hoping my death turns into a Mardi Gras Parade. Last spring I visited my father in a nursing home. A few weeks before he died I spirited him away for a drive to his farm house and a last glimpse of his beloved horses. That made him happy, and that made me happy. There was no laying in a hospital bed whining for a hug. Dad and me got off our asses and kicked adversitys ass. I offer no apologies for my view on LIFE AND LIVING.

42. Yet you seem to have no human radar
for when to say "well hope tomorrow's better" or just ignore a thread and when to say "HEY IT COULD BE WORSE! YOU COULD BE GETTING SHOT AT!"

I mean, really. I used that tactic once with someone. Notice I said "once?" It's horribly ineffective.

Just because he posted here that he had a bad day doesn't mean he doesn't "kick adversity in its ass." And you aren't the only one who HAS.

The cat o' nine tails example is meant as a parallel to people mentioning things that are worse and telling the person to just suck it up as opposed to offering a tiny bit of human empathy.

Damn.

43. And by the way
if anyone doesn't feel like being HAPPY at a funeral, do you just tell them to CHEER the hell up or to kick adversity in its ass, or do you give them platitudes about parents being problems giving birth to solutions?

Or do you have enough understanding of human social relations to know to tone down the laughter, mirth and joy in the face of someone's grief?

44. Why Moonbeam, do you have radar envy?
Others confront adversity on a daily basis. It has nothing to do with me. And empathy comes in many forms. You used "it" once and it failed. Maybe you are not good at it. I used it for years and was quite effective with it. And oh do I hope my funeral stops the traffic on Bourbon Street. Please, share with me the need to be sad about a death when there is so many reasons to celebrate a life.

45. You are missing the point yet again.
YOU may not be sad about a particular death, but the way you've handled yourself and the things you've said on this thread tell me that you have no sense or sensibility for when OTHERS don't feel the same way you do.

And again, how do you know the original poster doesn't kick adversity in its ass?

Why the need to be such an asshole?

46. Um
We ALL confront adversity on a daily basis... it's just a matter of degrees.

Perhaps there are those that thrive with the tough love kind of empathy you seem to be so insistent upon doling out. It doesn't look like there's anyone like that here right now, though. So...

49. By the way "Bosshog"
did your mother ever teach you "if you don't have something nice to day, don't say anything at all?"

That saying might just apply when someone says they had a shitty day and they need a hug and your first instinct is to tell them at least they have all their limbs or some other totally unempathetic crap.

35. "DON'T DREAM IT, BE IT."
I read that somewhere. Its hard to "be it" when you are wallowing. Not working to well? Little early to make that statement don't you think? Problems are parents which give birth to solutions if those plaqued with problems engage them and not let said problems do the engaging.

Truly, I do.

But I wouldn't call asking for hugs 'wallowing'. Maybe if it went on and on for days, sure. But one time? No. A call for support is in no way, shape or form the same thing as 'wallowing'.

It's from Rocky Horror. :)

24. Piss off.
I've spent almost every last dime of what I've earned preparing care packages for our kids in Iraq.

I've donated what probably amounts to weeks of my time helping to get AWOL out of office and to get our kids home.

I cry myself to sleep almost every night because I have so many family and friends serving in a war they know in their hearts is wrong and horrible.

Every time anyone dies or suffers unjustly - whether in Iraq or the Sudan or the US, and whether they're American or Iraqi or Martian - it shreds my insides thinking about the pain their loved ones must be enduring right now.

So take your self-righteous "you are an insignificant turd" bullshit somewhere else, ok?

PS: thanks for helping me to blow off some of my steam, asshole.
