| Maybe, I should just stay out of sexist/sexism threads for a while |
|
I realize that I have some things that I am angry about in my personal life with people who I know. I think that I have become overally emotional about some stuff and may not be able to be as tolerant and see both sides of various issues. I may also be prone to thinking in generalizations about my own recent experiences and imposing that upon all or most males. I am a feminist and have always been a feminist, but maybe I should just settle down before I say things that I regret. Is this reasonable to chill out for a while so that I can be reasonable?

| 1. Perfectly reasonable... |

...like not driving when you're emotionally upset. Everybody's safer that way, yourself included.

| 2. Don't beat yourself up |
|
After a couple of really bad relationships and being totally screwed financially and emotionally, I too HATED men. I could not even speak to them - the mere sight made me physically ill. I put my exhusband though med school and he dumped me for the nurse as soon as he began making $$$$. Don't be so hard on yourself, you will work it out in time.

| 3. It gets really hard to take around here--some people are real attached to |

their sexism. Its real, and it's not JUST you being overly emotional or triggered by personal experience. As a matter of fact, your personal experience highlights the fact that sexism is a reality, because I suspect a majority of women here could identify with your experience.
Alot of the enmity seems to come from the general inability, even refusal, of many men here to empathize and therefore, respect women's experience, conflicting with many women's experiences of actually being oppressed by sexism. Real actual experiences are trivialized, when it comes to women. I don't see any other minority group continuously have to beat their heads against the wall of defensiveness that is thrown up when sexualization/objectification/trivialization of women as an abrogation of human rights is discussed.

standing up for us feminists while you are doing it. I came very close to leaving at the beginning of my stay here 2 years agao. I was really ticked off at the Texas bashing (although now I come close to seeing the point.) and the antifemale atmosphere was hideous and hasn't gotten that much better. However, I don't think anything will change unless strong folks like us do our job of putting the good ole boys and gals in their biased place.
