I hate to say it, but I like THE MAJORITY REPORT better without Garofalo.

Don't get me wrong: I love Janeane Garofalo. She's a funny, talented, and smart person. But I find much of her on-air behavior extremely annoying--the pointless tangents, the constant harassment of Sam Seder about everything she perceives as imperfect about him.... You'd think someone above her at Air America would take Janeane aside and give her some pointers about what makes for good radio, but if they've done that, she has ignored the advice.

With these alternating co-hosts covering for Garofalo while she's off doing a film, I've enjoyed THE MAJORITY REPORT more these last couple of nights than I have in months. I'm almost sorry that she has to come back.

but I agree. When she picks on Sam for those stupid things it reminds me of couples where the wife constantly criticizes the husband or vice versa. It is difficult to be around them.

Janeane does with fresh cohosts too. i think she'll be just as good if not better.

just something about the chemistry of those two that derails the program more often than not. let's not forget Sam's annoying on-air behaviour: constant, constant interrupting of Janeane, refusal to pay attention, refusal to think before he speaks... and i love Janeane's 'dimestore psychology' and the way she describes the right. she also has lots of passion.

so quit picking on Janeane! i love them both, but they both suck! long live the Majority Report.

Like when he got married last summer. And if memory serves, Garofalo sounded quite good with those other co-hosts. You may just be right about she and Seder not being right together.

I like how opinionated she is, but I don't like her talking over her guests, trying to put words in their mouths and when she gets overly hyperbolic with the language. I don't want her to leave the show... just chill a little bit. Continually upping the "octane level," does not ininitely improve the impact or the result.

9. A dumb question:

What exactly do beta blockers do? My reason for asking, this morning, an article in the NYT's "Science Section" indicated that many musicans used beta blockers on stage. I wondered why, but the article didn't go further down that road.

13. Beta blockers literally block the release of adrenaline (the "fight or

flight" chemical) that brings on stagefright, raises your heart rate, and can sometimes lead to panic for those who perform in front of large audiences or do public speaking. It calms you down without sedating you (like valium would), although it also dulls you a bit, since many people find that little adrenaline rush helps them to think/speak clearly as well. I used to do tons of public speaking. I actually liked doing it, but did try propranalol a couple of times in really big important conferences. Tons of Cardiologists use it when presenting as well, I'm told. But, I think better on my feet with that little adrenaline rush. Plus, people who know me think I'm more interesting and animated when I don't use it--and without the dulling effect I was referring to.

Beta blockers are therapeutically indicated in some forms of heart and vascular disease, including heart failure, to reduce heart rate. It also reduces the vscular resistance in vessels throughout the body-- thereby allowng for more efficient pumping of blood through the body.

when it's just the two of them... she really needs to stand up to him and speak out for herself, because he's very domineering and rude when it's just the two of them. that's why she's rude too, i think. if he would let her talk too, pay attention, and actually think before he talks (i am so tired of hearing him say 'ummmmmm...' 'ummmmmm...') i think she might stop picking on and complaining about him.

usually it digresses into wholesome humor, or there isn't enough time allocated for the guest... but yeah, they need someone who's actually a listener to the show come on; or have the arbiter listen for a while first. that would help.

I am sure each of them, with another less "manic" host, would be fine. Together, however, they at times behave like children.
