| I've been watching the film "The Pianist" ..... |
|
..which, even though I've seen it once before, is part torture, part mind-awakening. I watch scenes that a part of you wants to believe could "Only happen in the Movies" yet you know, sadly, that the events in the Film are only a small representation of what it must have been like to be a Jew during those horrible years (and place).
I sit on my couch typing this, safe and sound in my home, knowing that those "Times" are far behind... until I realize that George Bush and his kind could easily bring back those types of nightmares to this country...just as he has done to/with Iraq. I doubt seriously if the children of Iraq are any less scared Today... than when the Germans came for the Jewish children...not so long ago...

| 2. I have a hard time watching movies about Jews, or even |

Germany, during WWII. I get so angry, I can hardly stand it. The Pianist was one of those movies - great movie, but I was so angry by the time it finished I wanted to go all mass murder on people who think hate is cool and a good way to do theology.

My husband is Jewish so he is always interested in these movies but I just can't watch them anymore. I am not good with movies about anything like this anymore. They make me angry but mostly just terribly sad. I don't ignore that it is out there but I just can't do it anymore.

| 5. I literally have to force myself to watch these types of films. |

The devastation of the Human Spirit saddens my soul and for brief moments the raging, purple hate consumes me like a blazing inferno until I realize that a part of us (humans) are still just primitive animals....and I refuse to act on it.

| 4. That is a great film -- a must see film |
|
The DVD has some great background on the making of this film.
In one striking scene -- a family lay dead on the street -- shot by Nazis. That reminded me of what some of the American "troops" are doing right now in Iraq.
It seems to me that bushie is setting up a new cold war -- a new enemy -- his choice for SoS is NOT a diplomat -- she is a war criminal war monger.
The Pianist is of the past -- but it is also a warning of what can happen if the world lets a mad man do anything we wants to involving killing and murdering people.
Everyone should watch this film -- it isn't easy to watch. I could only watch parts of it -- fast forward through it the first time, watch the bonus feature and then watching the film again from the beginning.
After watching this film -- bush scares me even more.

| 6. Roman Polanski pretty much lived that film. |
|
I was going to say I'm getting kind of bored with Nazi and slave movies, which I am.... but the film is quite good.
There used to be a DUer...I think it was LiberalTexan...who was related to the German you'll meet at the end of the film.
Roman Polanski was a small child during that time, and there are parellels between his life and Szpilman's. So he took pains to make it very real. On the dvd there are actual newsreels shown, and then the exact replica Polanski filmed.
Adrien's performance is just wonderful. I could gush about that for a while.
