The Camry is made in the US although a large part of the profit winds up overseas from Toyota and the support industries in Kentucky.

7. I'd buy 'em if ...

Ford, et al, would bring their European-flavor cars over here! There are a lot of cute cars that USians would buy but for the fact that the US market is not perceived as sophisticated, and therefore, not provided with a wide variety of choices. It's not just the Big Three; all carmakers have exciting cars not for sale here. So, when you compare cars available to us within the price range of all those Honda midsize passenger cars you notice, the overseas makers make better cars for the money.

I bought a Saturn Coupe, just before they went to the Ion.

Having looked at the Ion, the only advantage is the console in the center. Other than that, I'm happy with Coupe. Not only does it may the "hot roders" at work think it's a Firebird, but I get 260-ish miles on a tank.

Thanks to Ford and GM and Chevy, and the omnipresent jokes about not buying "made in the USA" goods (propaganda put into sitcoms and such by corporations pushing their own agendas), there's sadly truth behind the reputation of US autos.

Heck, my next car is going to be a Kia. Even for a $7000 car with a 10 year warranty, they'll probably grant me a loan and I'll probably have a bankruptcy on my credit report!

Consider the outsourcing of everything - engine components, steering and brake components, you name it. Everything came from Indonesia, or Korea, or wherever.
Bear in mind that we have been told by the CEO of General Motors that GM must no longer be considered an American company, but a Chinese company.

Saw an article in Car and Driver years ago, about how American our American cars are. The most American car had 75% US-made parts.

Ford and GM make many cars in Mexico and Canada. Honda manufactures Accords in the Largest plant in the world, located in Marysville, OH. Toyota also has a few US factories.

2 Saturns and 1 Ford. One of the Saturns is brand new. So in answer to your question--an emphatic, enthusiastic yes!

Outback. I've owned 2 VW Beetles, an Infiniti G20, and another Subaru station wagon in my time. Reliability has always been my absolute number one priority, and every one of those cars has been extremely reliable.

Oh, and I also only drive a stick shift. I prefer being in control, thank you very much.

Do you mean made here by American workers, at least partially, or do you mean made by an American corporation? Not necessarily the same thing.

I drive a 94 toyota with 200,000 miles on it. That's why I drive a toyota; because I can get more than 200,000 miles out of it with minimal maintenance.

The previous toyota went 350,000...the last 4 years with teenage high-school drivers. When the frame got bent, the engine went to run machinery at a shop. It's still running. That was 5-6 years ago.

I'll stick with my yoda.
