4. The way we relate to animals is very much culturally determined

so I have to suspend judgment even though its horrifying. I spent a summer in a poor African country where the native people thought the concept of actually feeding an animal and keeping it as a pet was completely ridiculous. You don't feed an animal, you eat an animal (where food is scarce).
