| I just got Tivo...not sure if I like it. |
|
I got a Tivo for a b-day present. It seems like a convenient device, but I'm not real thrilled with the video quality. Even at the best video setting it's grainy and there are noticeable compression artifacts.
Is ReplayTV better in this regard? I could always exchange it...

| 1. Sounds like you may need to reset it! |
|
I LOVE my Tivo!!!
Don't ask me how to reset it, 'cause I have no idea. My husband had to do that to ours and now the picture quality is much better.

I haven't experienced your issues.
However, my cable reception is bad on some channels and TiVo records what it "sees."
I'm in the process of configuring it to my home network so I can transfer video to my PC.

| 3. I Have A Tivo That Records In Either Basic Quality Of Best Quality |
|
Edited on Sun Feb-06-05 08:33 AM by GR
basic is somewhat grainy but is fine for talk shows and most news shows...sporting events or things with a lot of motion aren't as clear, but they're passable.
Basic allows you to record much more...standard less.
yours may be set for basic...go to set up and see what it's set for...
then change it if you want...I notice very little difference between standard recording and straight our of the wall cable reception...

| 4. TiVo Is The Greatest In My Opinion, got it for Xmas and we use |
|
it all thetime. No problems with video. We also have Comcast and are using the DVR in another room. TiVo wins hands down.
Only one complaint on TiVo which is the channel changing. Otherwise the rest is great.
Give it some time and you won't be able to live without it.

... if the grainy video isn't a sympton of some problem.
Naah, it's gotta be... seriously, digital TV recordings should be prefect representations of the originals pretty much. Mine is.
Seriously, you may have some people that is putting a damper on your enjoyment of the TiVo, I can't speculate as to what that might be.
But seriously on mine, if I look at the screen, I could not tell if what I was seeing was recorded playback or live TV just by looking at it.
Check your hookups and make sure everythin is working ok.
How do you get your single into the house? DirectTV? Also, is it fuzzy when you watch live TV as well, or just playback?
Heyo
on edit: It's fuzzy with two z's.

RCN digital cable service. The picture quality is typically excellent, esp. on the all-digital channels.
I've set the Tivo to the best picture quality but there's still a noticeable difference :-(

that's odd. I wish I could diagnose the problem for you, but I do believe there is one, as your TiVo'd video should be real good quality even on the lower settings..
good luck..

| 7. My Only complaint with my wonderful Tivo |
|
The one thing that drives me crazy about TIVO is that the remote that comes with it clicks too slow. I'm rabid about my clicking and I like it fast.
Other than that it's right up there with Frozen Yogurt in my book for top 10 inventions of the past 50 years.

maybe buy some new ones.
I was also a little skeptical at first about my TIVO too, but man...with the hours I work (3am-Noon) and my bedtime being at 7pm, we TIVO all our weekeday shows and then have a family TV night Friday night watching stuff. I really don't watch as much TV anymore, but am able to watch what I want when I want. Very handy!
