|
Edited on Wed Oct-15-03 07:39 PM by ixion
I'm probably in the minority here, but I really dislike professional athletics. sports lovers: please don't flame me, I've stayed off of your polls. :-)

But I know a number of people who could care less, and I can understand where they're coming from.

| 2. Fourth choice: Just this series. |
|
I normally don't follow baseball, but the prospect of either (or both) of the cursed Cubs or cursed Red Sox playing in the series has piqued my attention.

Pro sports in general and baseball in particular after the last strike, and I do not care who wins. For the record, many more Amerincas do not either, or ESPN woudl not be the place for MLB, but rather ABC or CBS or whoever had it on at one time

What I really wish on them is for the two lowest payrolls to get to the world series for 20 years straight.

| 6. Hearing about a new Star Trek series made by Rick Berman means... |
|
more to me than what's going on in the sports industry. (I'm in the minority too...)
And you've seen my rants, Berman should have been ousted ages ago - with the whole franchise/saga put on rest in sickbay for a few years until a new production team could do something novel with it!
People do need their diversions though. I just think sports are too glorified with the participants getting waaaaaaaaaay overpaid for what they do. With the amount of people who want to go pro, the next time the toddler-like players go on strike, it should be rather easy to find replacement players. And, no, I have not yet forgiven them for the strike of 1994, let alone anything more recent.

| 8. Correct me if I'm wrong, but... |
|
...the whole thing is just a bunch of grown men getting paid obscene amounts of money to do nothing more than throw, catch, and hit a ball. Why should I give a shit about it one way or the other?

They are paid to bring money to the organization and fill the seats. Also they do good they could get stadium sponsers or TV contracts. Considering how much money these owners make, I think the ones who people are paying too deserve to get a reasonable portion of that income.

| 10. Love sports, work is sports related, but despise baseball |
|
Two guys playing catch does not work for me at all. I tape football games and scrutinize every glorious physical matchup like center vs noseguard with slow motion and stop action review. A mental and physical grind like golf captivates me all year. I see no redeeming qualities in baseball, other than an excuse to toss resin bags on the ground.
Actually I don't hate baseball so much anymore, because I simply ignore it. It's surprisingly simple, just click away whenever Sportscenter or another show strays to the topic, and don't read a thing. All but my newest friends understand I will walk away if the subject is mentioned.
The sweetest month is indeed November.

At least that lives up to it's title, unlike certain world series that only feature US teams and a small sprinking of Canadians. :eyes:

But if you have to admit MLB is home to the greatest baseball players in the world. But I don't think World Series is an appropriate title.
