Sure, I'd tell that particular joke in public. I stand by my original analysis that, at heart, it is a Bush** joke.

No, I probably wouldn't tell a "real" Pope joke until a suitable period of mourning had passed. (The Pope-related sig line will stay up until the service Friday.)

A little piece of advice: Pope jokes will not get more popular with the passing of time. Again, Hawaii is a largely Catholic state.

It'd work nearly as well with "(insert dignitary here) lies in state". The Pope just happens to be the one lying in state at the moment.

A new priest at his first mass was so nervous he could hardly speak. After mass he asked the monsignor how he had done.

12. The Virgin Mary is not called "Mary with the Cherry."

13. The recommended grace before a meal is not "Rub-A-Dub-Dub thanks for the grub, yeah God."
