Things I Learned Tonight:

I went to a Passover Seder, as some of you already know. I had no idea that you don't really eat until the very end. I also had no idea it would last as long as it did (and we did a shortened version! LOL!). And the symbolism was really interesting. FOUR large-ish glasses of wine. :toast:

The kids did a short little "play" during one part when you are supposed to read the story of Abraham, his sons, Moses, et al.

My daughter played both Moses' mother and Miriam, his sister. It was great.

Parsley dipped in salt water doesn't taste so good. Neither does gelfite fish. Or Passover wine (too sweet).

But potato latkes are good, as is borscht (I was surprised by that).

Hitting other people with scallions while mentioning bad things you wish were gone was cool (war, pollution, I did hear someone say "Dick Cheney" and that made me giggle).

Leaning to the left while drinking the wine was cool, too. And seemed a very natural thing to do, LOL.

All in all, really neat thing to experience. You wash your hands twice, that was interesting.

Earlier in the year, we attended a Chinese New Year celebration and had dim sum for the first time. I think 2005 is the year of trying new things for us!

2. Uh, ahem, didn't try it.

I'm not a big fan of horseradish, but the lady next to me did say it was exceptionally good.

Oh and we had chocolate chip macaroons at the end of the dinner, before the third glass of wine.

And matzah bread isn't.....so good. But it's ok. I understand it's literally just flour and water.

Our seder isn't till tomorrow.

4. My husband put a big ol' gob of the horseradish on

his bitter herbs at the part where you do that and he said it was delish, but he adores horseradish! I had the apple mixture stuff on my bitter herbs. Pretty damn good.

I loved all the symbolism.

Cool! One of the few religious memories from my childhood. They were fun. Makes me miss my Dad, it was cool to hear him read from the, uh..Hagadah if I remember correctly. Hi Dad, wherever you are!!(I believe if he's not reborn yet, he's in the Library in a comfy chair reading all the great geniuses of history, and probably some good mysteries inbetween. And schmoozing with all his fellow geniuses. :D )

11. Yeah, it was great. 39 people and only 3 were Jewish, LOL!

The rest of us were learning. The Haggadah, yeah, we read from that in unison.

The only people having a Seder that we know would be the flaming smirk lover business partner of my hun-bun. The one who gets sparkly eyed at the mention of dead Arabs. Yeah her. I think I'll rush right over and chew matzo with them. Uh huh.

We'll have to find some left-leaning Deaf Jewish friends.
