I want this dog. She's a rescue and just LOOK at her picture, with her little tongue sticking out and her head cocked. She sounds perfect for us (our daughter is 10, calm and wonderful with dogs--in fact, has trained our dog to do many things).

7. We had a chihuahua before and loved him.

He died of old age. He wasn't properly socialized though, and barked his little ass off at EVERYONE that wasn't us.

This one seems socialized, from the description. I'm not into big dogs.

there are two possible cons:

1. The dog we have now seems very content to be an "only dog." We fostered a dog for a rescue society about a year ago and our dog HATED it. The dog we fostered was fine, it's just that our dog went bananas with jealousy and was mean to the foster dog, who fortunately was adopted. She never bit the foster dog or anything, but growled at him a lot and made him the definite beta dog.

2. My husband. He's ambivalent about a second dog. He would insist on obedience training at a school, unless this dog is already leash trained and everything.

The #1 possible con is probably the biggest one. Sigh.

But she's been traumatized twice, and your situation doesn't sound ideal. I'm sure you'd love her, but if your dog doesn't, she'd have to find yet another home.

and it sounds like she was traumatized by a child. Although your child will never do this, it still might be too much for this unfortunate dog. She does however, look like the perfect dog for someone like my mother, quiet, small and loving. Too bad I can't talk my mother into getting a dog.

Why won't your mother have a dog? Oh Domino wasn't traumatized by a child. It just says she was abused.

Our house is very quiet, sometimes too quiet for my taste. Our daughter is very patient and loving. She trained our dog to walk on a leash (to heel) and she housetrained her too (she lets us know when she needs to go outside). She's truly wonderful with small animals. And she's not a younger child.

But I don't know. Need to think about this and discuss it with my husband some more. It's really our other dog I'm more concerned about. She gets highly jealous, so this might be out of the question.

But I LOVE that dog!!!

10 isn't exactly a "small child" which is what the dog was traumatized by.

20. Somebody else will adopt her.......or she will be put down.

Maybe a nice family with problems will adopt her. They will leave her out in the weather tied to a fence with no shade or shelter. Maybe they will give her food and water or maybe they will "forget".
She will probably be refered to as "that damn dog". She won't suffer long because the lack of care will cut her life short. That or the beatings she will endure for "barking too much" will do her in.

Yup, you shouldn't take this little cuttie into your home. Somebody else will.

This rescue society is one I know pretty well. While they can't prevent everything, they are awfully careful.

1. She's an adult already, so any genetic defects would likely have shown up by now;
2. Apparantly good with other dogs (what kind of dog do you have now?);
3. Altered and housetrained...that's good.
4. She's a shelter rescue. Awesome.

Looks like a winner. Check her teeth and check for a cleft palate, though. That might be why her tongue is hanging out of her mouth like that. Certainly not a reason to NOT adopt her, but signs of future expense.

34. We have a resuced chihuahua that was abused by a former owner.

Chihuahuas bond to one person, which will likely be you. Sophie immediately took to my fiancee. She (sophie, not the fiancee) has finally gotten pretty used to me after 6 months, and will sometimes even come up and sit on my lap, but rarely. If my fiancee is not around, Sophie prefers to hang out in her kennel. When the fiancee is around though, sophie is a crazy, outgoing, social, and generally trusting animal. She loves to play, dig at the carpet, wrestle with my hand (as long as she gets to sit in the fiancee's lap while she is playing). DO IT!!!

Yeah we had a chi before and he bonded mostly to me. He was fine with my husband and daughter, but really just wanted me around.

My husband took a lot of pictures of me asleep when we had our chihuahua because he'd always curl up and sleep on me or right next to me. He HAD to be near me.
