Who loves them? :7
Right now I'm listening to "Right Turn" with the album Jar of Flies coming up next on the playlist!
:loveya:
Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell sure were great together.

But, with the tragedy of his death, there was a fund developed to help Seattle musicians overcome their battles with drug addiction.

The band had a standing offer of about $1 million per member to go on tour. Jerry Cantrell, of course, wanted Layne to clean up so they could record and tour again. At the time he died, I remember a news interview with someone who lived near his condo. They said Layne wandered around in the same hooded sweatshirt and couldn't have weighed over 95-100 lbs at the time of his death. I found it sad as well that he'd been dead a couple of weeks before anyone checked on him.

| 2. I never appreciated them while they were popular. |
|
I miss them a lot, though. They were a great rock band and it's a shame Layne couldn't kick heroin.

but, I was young! Truth be told, there were two songs in particular that turned this girl into a rocker.
"Don't Follow"- Alice in Chains
"Blow Up the Outside World"- Soundgarden

|
and though I listened to mostly grunge, I dressed much more "goth" and "punk". Then a year and a half ago I moved here to Indiana to live with my SO- by the time I came to visit my mom again I was wearing old flannel shirts and ripped jeans. She thought it was just hilarious that her daughter had to move to Indiana to start dressing like she came from Seattle! :7

| 21. Unplugged is pure genius |
|
But a bit sad. It was done with only 1 take (normal UNplugged recordings could take hours upon hours). But the bands management knew & told all the relevant people that Layne would not be able to survive reshoots and redos. He was completely wanked that night- gloves on, sleeves down.. it was a sin. And still the musical genius rolled out of him. Amazing but so so sad.

They were their own catagory too.
Damn I loved that album Dirt. Holy shit! That's effin' music!!!
I can't name an AIC song I don't like. I could name ten I love.
And I have to say this - I found the overt pro-drug use message (pro at least in that it exists) in the midst of a "war on drugs." It was ballsy, a midle finger to authority, and a loud protest of the current destructive drug laws. And an all too honest look at what can happen in the end. But still, I liked the fact they sang about doing drugs. That was a plus for me.
But the main thing was the sound.
Dem Bones still has me bouncing around the room.

Junkhead is the real big one- "Money, status, nothing to me/ cuz your lifes empty and bare" and "we are an elite race of our own/ stoners, junkies, and freaks"
I am so bad at singing sometimes, so I just play that song extra loud! :7

| 17. The sad thing about Layne is... |
|
... that his addiction was the fuel for his music. Without it Dirt would have never happened.
I don't think AIC's influence on the hard rock/metal scene has been fully appreciated yet. Some day people will realize what a loss we suffered when Layne died.

I think a lot of people would be surprised at how many great things, music, art, literature, were fueled by drug use.
