several years ago my son bought this beautiful blue jeep--but eventually became tired of the jeep because of the amount of gas it consumed and the constant need to refill the tank.

he eventually sold it and drove my car for a while (what are moms for, right?--until i insisted that he had to get his own transportation again--and he then bought a pick up truck).

:blush: I am trying to get it in shape to sell so I can buy a Prius or Insight...the gas milage is really horrible. I really only drive it two or three times a week, I walk as often as possible.

I am filled with Jeep guilt, because when I do drive it (if she's naked, top and doors off) it is FANTASTIC! It was my dream car, and when I found it, i couldn't resist. I had been driving a 89 honda civic that was beat to hell and back, but got 30+ mpg. Then it died, and I had no car for a year. Then, she came into my life. :-( I love her.

I guess my degree of death is higher than most, but I will try to make up for it soon. It's only got 111000 miles on it and it's a 95- I've put on 50000 miles in four years, that's below average! (and three thousand of those miles was getting it to CA!)

I have my bill miller's cup in the cupboard. I make sweet tea myself (quite good, if I do say so myself) and put it in my mug, and go driving with the top down sometimes. thier tea is different though. I don't know what it is they put in it, maybe crack?

3. I Bought My Jeep To Go Places Where

I bought my Jeep to go places where you just can't take your economical, gas-efficient road machine. Places where the grades are steep, the rocks many and protruding, and the paving non-existant.

I am not one of those cross-country ogres or rock crawling extremists. I try to stick to established trails leading to 19th century ghost towns and mining camps--where the pristine wilderness had been first been violated by pack mules and wagons.

For those who would suggest that I should have rented a Jeep on-site, I respectfully point out that many car rental companies ahve clauses in their rental contracts forbidding lessees from taking their 4WD vehicles off-road.

5. I am a former Jeep owner / current Honda Civic Hybrid Owner

and I agree Jeep owners are at the gas station way too often. And I was there double time because my daily commute round trip is 140 miles. I filled half the tank up each day Monday through Friday. I did have originally because we liked to hiking in hard to get to trails. But you know it ain't worth it. My last tank was 49.5 miles per gallon with 570 miles on it. I'm living it!!

My husband drives a 2002 Jeep Liberty and the gas mileage isn't that bad. My stepdaughter drives a 2004 Jeep Wrangler and she says that while it isn't the best on gas, it's far from the worst she has ever driven. But I wouldn't want one of the Grand Cherokees, thank you very much.

13. I have both! a cherokee and a wrangler.

the wrangler gets about 12-15 mpg, and the Cherokee gets 20-25 (unless I use 4wd). both are 95's. I have been very happy with them, except for the gas mileage. We test drove the 05 Grand Cherokee, it sucked. I like my 95 better. I have a good friend who loves her liberty too.

16. I have had two Jeeps. CJ5 with a 304 V8 and a CJ7 with a six cyl.

Jeep wrote the book on four wheel drive, but I got terrible mileage with both of them. 12 mpg..

I own a 1982 Toyota FJ40 so I understand how much fun it can be to drive an "open" vehicle out in the wilderness, but I don't get why people drive them in the city where the only dirt it'll see is at the bottom of a pothole.

FWIW, my FJ40 gets 10 MPG, and I put maybe 1500 miles a year on it.

I love my 40 and wouldn't trade it for anything. It'll go down trails that make Hummers cower in fear, climb mountains that goats fear to tackle, and I look like a maniac in it when I pop the top, drop the front glass, and take it blasting around town in my aviators cap and goggles!

As for rust, just about the entire floor of my 40 is replacement metal, and the quarters were replaced years ago. As long as the frame is solid, I can keep patching it up forever!

I just wish it had A/C :)

My '91 YJ s my first "tub" vehicle. It was $2700, and I view it as expendable. Fist sto go was the roof and doors. Who needs 'em?!

nothing like having a vehicle you can hose-down inside and out after a day of 'wheelin'. I'm coating the interior in a roll-on bedliner tomorrow... then it will be a completely low-maintenence ride!

I have a '91 YJ 5-speed with the 2.5 litre 4 cylinder engine. I get about 400 highway kilometers (that's over 300 miles) on a tank.

It was really fun to ride in.

Also, another friend's father had an army jeep. That thing was badass. You could drive it through the river and it wouldn't even hesitate...would walk right across.

Jeeps are great for so many purposes. Mine is the ultimate river vehicle...pull it down on the beach, turn on the tunes, and put the icechest on the tailgate. And watch the guys flock around. :D
