But while I was waitressing, I was asked out a few times. I always said no, but one guy was very persistent & pretty damn cute - so I finally agreed.
It didn't work out.

He was gay, so it didn't work out so well.
I just said, "Hey you're cute... wanna go out sometime?"

no, here's a story. I was a waitress at this small town joint near my hometown, very small town, when I was in college. Mostly just farmers old enough to be my grandfather came in. But one day this saleman ( I think he was a salesman) came in, and I waited on him and his buddies. And then as he was leaving, he asked me out. ( must have been the uniform, I guess.) He wasn't really my type, but I said ok. Guess I was bored that summer! Oh, wait, my BF had gone back to Cincinnati, that was it. I was staying with my parents that summer... so he picked me up there. And then! He took me to his place! Where we ate take-out! including corn on the cob! Which he slathered with butter as he described things some other woman had done to him and various parts of his anatomy on his last date! Things that I had no intention of doing! Ever! And after that we watched TV! I said, take me home! That was a very bad date. Guess he thought waitresses put out, but he was wrong! ;)
And that was the LAST TIME I went out with anyone who asked me out when I was a waitress. And yes, I did waitress after that.

I know you wouldn't ask this woman out and then take her back to your place first and eat corn on the cob in a suggestive manner. ;)

So, that was kind of like a stranger?

She married a guy who asked her out while she was working. She was so accustomed to declining creepy toe sucking proposals by elderly Malibu show business people, that she said yes to the first guy who seemed normal.
But they are now divorced.

But working as a server I can tell you, string six words together with some charm and intelligence and basically any female server can be yours. Very promiscuous industry.

I was a waiter (male food server) at the same restaurant at the time so I'm not sure that counts. We're still dating over a year later. A restaurant job will really kick your social life into overdrive, I'm tellin' ya....

With my lifelong weakness for black-haired waitresses, I'd have long since exploded if I hadn't. (This,of course only applies to my life prior to Mrs R's arrival.)
But I always had a rule: Never try to pick up the barmaid. Whatever clever thing you have to say, she's heard something more clever. No matter how cool you are, she's met a guy who's cooler. No matter how sharp you look, she's met guys more handsome than you.
Too much competition, in short, therefore a waste of time to try.
Boy, am I glad I'm married. Being single is too much work!
