Help on AIM messages, when I log on

I'm new to AIM. I have one whole buddy. Twice now I've logged on, and gotten a laugh, which is the sound this person uses when they send messages. So I thought I had received a message. But I couldn't figure out where it was, if I did. The first time, a little door icon appeared by her name, and opened, and disappeared. The second time I didn't see an icon. When I wrote to her and asked if she had sent a message, she signed off. So I don't know what the little laugh was, whether it was a message I missed, or what, and I can't ask, since she signed off.

Anyone clue me on this?

1. I think that sound is also....

The sound for someone signing on, or off. You can set what those sounds should be in your preferences, as well as if you'd like a sound every time someone messages. When they message you, you will get a new, separate window from your buddy list. Hope that helps!

Maybe she was signing off just as I signed on? Could explain it. It wouldn't laugh for me signing on, would it? I already know I'm signing on.

I've tried twice now to figure this out using AIM's web page, and it is no help.
