Need advice on where to stay in Las Vegas...anyone?

Just myself and dh. No kids, and (no offense to those w/kids here) but we prefer to stay places that aren't all that kid friendly.

Anyway, if anyone frequents Vegas and can recommend some fave spots, post away! Thanks!

1. It depends on how much you want to spend.

I personally love the Bellagio. It's a bit pricier, but the resort and service is top notch in my book :)

Also, the Luxor and MGM Grand are also faves that are more moderately priced, but can be a bit "family-friendly" due to their enormous size and prime location on the strip. Stay far away from the Excalibur and Circus Circus resorts if it's kids you are trying to avoid.

I also have heard great things about the new Wynn Resort. My parents have raved about it. :D

I have a list that dh got from an agent earlier. Just from poking around on the internet, I had circled the Luxor and MGM--I liked what they offered from their sites... I hadn't yet explored the Bellagio. Thanks for the tip!

Dh is big on service--he'd rather pay the extra if it means he'll have a good experience.

8. It's ok.. But all the hotels are just upscale malls with rooms & gambling

We have stayed at the

MGM (free weekend..ok rooms great food)
Tropicana..sucky room..suckier casino
Sams Town (bowling tournaments..free room 7 food..we like it there..great casino too)
Paris..(yawn.. foodcourt meets GayParee or the $45 steak, $8 baked potato.. a la carte in the "good restaurant"....nice showers..sucky casino)
Orleans..so-so
Stratosphere..the rollercoaster & the free fall thing was fun..nice casino./.rooms just ok
Stardust.. cheap..nice casino
Rio.. rooms ok..casino ok, buffet excellent
I have left somne out but those are the ones in my head now:)

4. They're all pretty much the same, especially with school back in session;

the stratosphere is the most kid friendly along with circus circus and therefore, obvious places to avoid. And that treasure island place.

Other than that, Ceasars, Wynn, Bellagio, NY NY, Venetian, etc, all tops and comparable.

6. Treasure Island is now "TI at the Mirage" and is no longer "kid friendly"

They've phased out a lot of that "pirate" stuff, and the show that used to be based on a pirate battle has now become a T & A thing.

5. Wow! Big spenders on this thread! Hubby and I are poor so we stay at the

Imperial Palace.

The casino is gross and smelly. But the rooms are pretty good basic rooms, like at a hotel 6 or so. They have a good sports book there, and if you are into cars, they have a good auto collection.

I have stayed at the Venetian, when hubby's company paid for it.
It was very nice, when it was free, but I didn't think it was nice enough to pay what they would normally charge. However, if you are an art lover (I'm an art historian) you must go to see the Guggenheim Hermitage museum on the premises.

My sister and I stayed at Bally's once, because we got a screaming deal. I liked that place. Much nicer than Imperial Palace. I would recommend them as a good balance of price and quality.

My "ultimate" dream is to stay at Mandalay Bay. That place just looks so cool! But, so far I haven't had the chance. They are just way too expensive. :-(

We are not that kid-friendly either and had no problems at all.

9. I have a few suggestions.

I've been going to LV for years now (NAB Convention)
I've stayed in the MGM a coupl of times, it's OK.

I like the Luxor. It's quiet, kind of dark inside, and the last time I was there it wasn't over-run with kids.

Aladdin is good, stayed there 2 years ago. The food court was the big atraction for me (Cheeseburger at the Oasis-YUM!)

For the last 2 years, I've stayed at Paris. Nice rooms, good service, competent concierge. The Cafe is a good place to eat, the buffet is over-priced unless you're one of those "Boy, they shore-as-hell lost money on ME!" eaters. But then, most the buffets on the strip are like that. I think there's some $9 or less buffets off strip, but the taxi ride will wipe out any savings.

LV is getting away from that "Family Friendly" image they were going for several years ago. The pirate show is gone, the amusement park behind the MGM is gone, the new places are being built with no "kid" things, and how can we forget the "What's DONE here STAYS here" ad campaign from last year?

I can recommend the omelette at the Greek Islands for breakfast. Do NOT pay with a card, however, because when I got back from my last trip, I had strange charges start showing up every month. That was the only place I paid for a meal w/a card where it was out of my hands for any period of time.

I was NOT impressed with PF Chang's. I've had just as good food from places like "China Buffet 1" for a hell of a lot less money.

"Quark's" at the Hilton was OK. A "must see" if you can still force your fingers into a Vulcan salute...:-)

The monorail is running MOST of the time ("Monorail! Monorail! Monorail!") and if you buy a multi-ride or 24-hour pass is a cheap way to get from one end of the strip to the other. bus service on the strip is OK, too.

10. My favorite spot is

the intersection composed of New York, New York, Tropicana, MGM, and Excalibur.

It is at the south end. It is close to the Luxor and Mandalay Bay. There are also some great casinos on the north end of the strip like the Venetian, Bellagio, and Caesars.

I LOVE VEGAS. Bars are expensive to get in to but are worth it. Coyote Ugly in NY-NY or Ghost Bar at the Palms.

just for kicks, when i was in vegas this summer, we drove down there and played $2/hand blackjack for hours, and drank endless cans of tecate beer ($1 per can). not for the fainthearted, though! but it's a LOT different than the strip.

seriously, though, if you're into dive bars, it's worth checking out for that cheapass blackjack, and the "atmosphere" (heh).

12. Go to the Imperial Palace, tell them you went to U of North Dakota....

You might get a discount. The late owner was alumni. Don't feel bad about lying either, becasue he was also quite a racist jackass. He was santioned by the Gaming Commission for celebrating Hitler's birthday at that very hotel.

I think it may have been purchased by Harrah's though. Not sure.

It's old too, so if money's not an option, then forget about it.

13. I stayed at the Venetian

it's a bit pricey, especially if you are going over a weekend but the rooms are very nice. They are all suites so for the three hours you are actually in your room...at least you can move around. I would definitely recommend it to anyone
