I don't know why...they never find the source.
I have no metal in my body to my knowledge. I did have my appendix out a few years ago--sometimes I get scared they left a 'souvenir' inside me.:scared:

| 5. Those are the kind of souvenirs one does not want |

I know someone who had to have one of her knees fused because of a "souvenir" left behind.

My favorite was when a nickel in my back pocket set off the alarm but when I took it out I walked through without setting the thing off EVEN THOUGH I HADN'T TAKEN OFF MY STEEL-TOED WORK BOOTS.
(This was about a year before 9/11)

| 8. Do courthouse metal detectors count? If yes, then I do. |
|
A couple of years ago, my mother was looking to buy property. Every time one came up in the paper that she liked, she sent my stepdad and me to the courthouse's maps and planning room to get a printout of the parcel numbers.
I emptied my pockets and went through the metal detector. It went off. I said I don't have anything left that is metal. They scanned me. Admission here. I wasn't wearing a bra because I no longer really need one. I was happy the twins had been altered to a manageable size.
Anyhow, that's where the handheld scanner would beep. I looked at the cop and he said are you wearing an underwire. I said no. He looked at me again and told me to go back and try it again through the standup version of the metal detector (they were using both the stand up version and the handheld as a backup). I did it again and the standup version went off again. He scanned me again with the handheld. Same thing. The handheld went off again. Meanwhile, the people behind us started getting irritated and a crowd started gathering.
He asked me if I had eaten red meat or fried foods lately. I asked if there were any other food groups besides those and chocolate. He let me go in anyhow. We must have gone to the courthouse 7 or 8 times. I set it off every time. He said it must be the high iron content in my blood. He always let me go in anyhow though. It was odd.

Good Christ, how much iron would you need to have coursing through your veins to set off a metal detector?!! I guess we both have the same problem.
