title research. But I have been with the same company for 3 years. But I am still self-employed. I still pay the self employment pentalty tax.

44. Before a company drills a well, all of the

ownership of the land has to be researched. All the way back to when the courthouse started keeping records. They have to make sure the land is owned free and clear w/o any liens or breaks in the title. I have to find out who owned the land in 1890 all the way until the present. I have to check for judgments, liens, deaths, divorces, etc. It can be boring, but it can also be very interesting!

But I guess it makes sense. How did you get into that field?

46. My aunt has been in the oil business forever.

She contracts workers (like me) out to lawyers who work for the oil companies. After I go through all of the work, my aunt would go through it, turn it in to the lawyers, who would also go through it and give a no-go or a go ahead to the oil companies. When you make a mistake, it can be a multi-million dollar mistake, so it can be stressful. That is why so many people have to go through the work. I traveled all over Mississippi to the courthouses. Depending on where the well was to be drilled, that is where I would go. It is not a job you just fall into. Usually you know someone in the oil business.
