So, I spent five years, nine months, and four days in the Air Force. Got out in May. Happy as hell about it too. So, I rotated back to civillian life, and it pretty much sucks. Far too much to worry about. So, with that in mind, I'm thinking about joining the Navy as a prior service veteran. My service record while I was in the Air Force is spotless, and I graduated from a Navy technical school, so getting a rating shouldn't be much of an issue.
However, I'm taking the NYPD entrance exam in March. So, if I can't get into police academy...I'm trading in my flight attendant uniform for Good Humor Man/Waffen SS uniforms. :D

| 1. what is it about civilian life that sucks so much? |

On the positive side, in the military you would only be fifteen years from retirement. Civilian life has no such benefit. I never cared for what I saw as the war-mongering imperialist purpose of our military, especially with Reagan and Bush in office. I only worked for the USAF as a civilian. Military life seemed too authoritarian to me. Good luck on either choice.

| 2. Have you thought about a civilian government job? |

Lots of agencies have law enforcement officers or might find something to use your technical skills. You probably qualify for a veteran's preference and your time in the Air Force would count towards retirement.

I kind of miss the military. I miss the comaraderie, chance to travel, etc. What sucks is paying rent, bills, finding insurance for this and for that, stuck in the same place. That, and I miss my old job as an intel analyst.
