What's a really nonchalant way to ask my boss for paystubs?

This is a really dumb question, but I need some back paystubs so I can bring them to the bankruptcy lawyer.
How can I do that without saying "hey, I need some back paystubs for the bankruptcy lawyer"?
Times like this I *really* miss working for the man at some huge faceless entity that had an HR department.

1. You could just say you need them without giving a reason. |

It's not really anyone's business why you'd need them.
You could say anything, though - that you need them for your records (you do) or for a financial transaction (sort of).

A pretty dumb question to be sure...but I'm feeling pretty :dunce: these days.
